I'll certainly include the Smith name as a possible surname for Elizabeth. One of my other family lines (Buskirk / Van Buskirk) seem to follow the European naming traditions for first names, but I hadn't considered the middle name yet. The Smith middle name becomes Jesse Smith Cain's commonly used first name by the time he is about 40 until his death. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great grandfather Antal/Anton Vargo Nemeth came over from Hungary in 1906, and his wife Elizabeth Toth(e) came over 7 years later in 1913. They had three children (Teresa, Katherine, and Francis/Frank). The middle child, Katherine, died before the youngest, Frank/Francis, was born in 1921. I can't find any obituaries or death records, and she shows up in the 1920 census so I know she had to have died AFTER Jan 24th of 1920, but before May 26th of 1921 when Francis was born. Also, I can't find any records of Elizabeth's travel over from Europe to the USA (though the 1920 census says she arrived in 1913), nor any marriage records or death records for her. If anyone has any information, please let me know. I've been questing for this info for years and since I finally got a break I was hoping to get more! Author: DonnaMilano Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13401.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Quite often, children were given their mother's maiden name as their middle name. Since Jesse and Elizabeth's son was named Jesse Smith Cain, it's possible Smith is Elizabeth's maiden name. Of course, you will need to research that, but it's a starting point to look for additional ancestors. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: cainde Surnames: Cain Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13401/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My ggg gf is Jesse Cain/Cane/Kain/Kane b 1789 PA, d Jan 1850, Pickaway Co. Ohio. Married Elizabeth _____ b 1789 PA. Had at least two children - Sarah b 1826 and Jesse Smith Cain b 1828-1831, both of PA, also resided in Pickaway Co, Ohio. Looking for any information on Jesse Cain's (b 1789) parents or birth county in PA to continue my search. - I'm uncertain as to where in PA to look. - I cannot confirm any contemporaneous relatives in Ohio who might have migrated with Jesse and Elizabeth from PA. - However, Jesse Cain's son, Jesse Smith Cain, served in the Civil War, and after his service, he moved to Morgan/Brown Co IN area, and married Margaret Hobbs on 20 Apr 1869. My hypothesis is that Jesse Smith Cain went to Morgan/Brown Co IN because some relatives were there. A Jesse W Kain (possibly the son of John Gates Cain?) married Harriet S VanSickle 2 weeks earlier, on 4 Apr 1869, also in Morgan County. I have not been able to show that these two Jesse's were related, but I find it very interesting. If any of you can help guide me, I'd greatly appreciate it!
