If his obit was in the paper on Sept. 8, 1904, maybe there was a write-up in the paper on the 7th. Or if he was well-known in the community perhaps there was an article after the funeral; "large group of friends attend funeral". Another option would be to check the church's synod office, who may have, or direct you to an archive of, their marriage or death records. Does anyone know if there were any churches or traveling preachers in the Dayton, OH area in the late 1700's that might have recorded births? My family history has Andrew Perry born in the Dayton area, and the 1850 census states he was born in OH in 1797. The 1850 census of LaPorte Co., IN is the first census where Andrew shows up, and he appears to have a second marriage in 1837 in Wayne Co., IN. He apparently died in New Boston, Mercer Co., IL ca 1852-3. Thanks for your help. Gloria

I did find that info in a Rootsweb archive from 2003. I've been researching Rhoda and Eli for 20 years. I found the connection through the records of the murder trial of Return JM Ward who I unfortunately believe is also a son of Jared Ward. I bought the book Murder in Sylvania which I can't seem to find at this minute. Henry Hubbard (Rhoda & Eli's son) is a witness and referenced as a nephew of Return JM Ward. Catherine Emmons Van Alstyne Hubbard is also referenced. In his confession RJM Ward talks about how he dumped one of his victims off Abbott's bridge. He told people he was going to visit his father in Milan. I researched the Wards in Milan and made the connection to Jared Ward. I found a local researcher back in 2003 (Polly Cooper) who had made the same connection. Her husband is a descendant of Hiram Hubbard. She provided me with a Ward tree and a reference to the Firelands Pioneer of May 1859 (page 45): "Mrs. Lucy A. Stevens talked about her early school days in Milan. She had this to say about the Ward Family, "The scholars were myself and sister, the two Barrets (I do not know where they are), Rhoda Ward (who died in Michigan fifteen or twenty years ago), Sally Ward(who died in Peru seventee or eighteen years ago), Betsey Ward (now the wife of Isaac Collins in Huron), Elam Ward (of this place)."" This a bit of a puzzle so any pieces you might have would be appreciated. I'd love to confirm Rhoda's birth info and what happened to the other Hubbard children. Also our Hubbard son Asher is often referenced as being married to an Emma Wheeler. However our family is descended from Asher Hubbard and Harriet E. Adams, daughter of Benjamin S. Adams. Asher's obituary says they were married October 5, 1851 in OH and they moved to Oshkosh WI in 1852. Looking for info on the Adams side and the possible prior marriage. My husband and our 2 children are members of the Eastern Shawnee tribe in Oklahoma. They are descended from William Prophet (1857-1921) whose father may have been John Prophet. John's siblings were Frank, Catherine and Sarah, all 3 born from 1821 to 1824. The family tradition is that the Prophets are descended from Tenskwataw, The Prophet. I have found this family on various records in Kansas. William ended up in Indian Territory, but his parents died in Kansas. They came from Ohio before Kansas. William's mother was Nancy Daughtery. He married Mariah Dushane, the drt. of David C. Dushane, a prominent member of the Shawnee Tribe. Do you have any information on any of these people? Thanks for any help you can give me.
