We were told by our grandfather that his grandfather William Tecumseh Matteson was related to Tecumseh and also he said he was Cherokee. Do you have any lineage that would take us to 1825 to when Wm T Matteson would have been born in Ohio? The first we see anything on him is in a census from around 1850. We have nothing except that he claims he was born in Ohio. No parents names or anything else comes up. I'm thinking he was about 5 when they put the indians on the trail of tears and our family escaped that somehow. Maybe by his family being so white that they blended in and had a white last name. Sure wish we could find a clue. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [OHIO] Charles KIDDER arriving in OHIO after Civil War ? (KIDDER in general)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: Kidder, Fisk, Fiske, Harris, Harrison, Plumley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13444/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, My main research of 20 years is on the KIDDER name. I know a lot about my line of KIDDER's which were always in New England, except for one generation in New Brunswick, Canada. So, when I have time, I try to help others with their research. To begin with, I'd like to offer the current web site for the descendants of James KIDDER (1626-1676) of Massachusetts. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kidderfamilyhistory/index.html And, George Kidder from that site is looking for all information which might not be in the 1941 "KIDDER book." He has spent maybe 20 yrs. trying to update that book. My general question is about a KIDDER family of early 1800's Westford, MA. It is a confusing family, partly because there is very little information on-line about his first, 4 children, and then no researcher had ever found out that he had had a 5th child. (A member of the Westford Historical Society found the birth record 4 yrs. ago in the records of the "Poor Farm" from 1840's.) My specific question is about the first son, Charles Henry KIDDER, b1839 in Westford, MA. I couldn't find information on him on-line, but I looked in the "KIDDER book" and found a few pieces of information. Charles married Frances FISKE / FISK from Saco, Maine, but they married in Acton, MA, in 1864. I have no idea whether he fought in the Civil War. But, the book says the couple moved to Cleveland, OH. And, it says they had 2 children, a daughter, Mary Olive KIDDER, and a son, Charles Dwight KIDDER. Unfortunately, no dates are mentioned. I was wondering if anyone knew about this couple. I checked the archives of the Ohio Lists, and the KIDDER name is mentioned a few times. And, I checked the archives just now of the archives of the Ohio Boards and saw the KIDDER name mentioned many times. This is the family I'm trying to find better information for: Charles Proctor KIDDER, b1801 Westford, MA, (son of James) married first Mary Ann WRIGHT in 1827. They divorced and remarried in 1835, and then had 4 children: Harriett KIDDER, b1836 (marr. James Edward HARRIS) Nancy KIDDER, b1837 (marr. (unknown) HARRISON) Charles Henry KIDDER, b1839 (see above) Mary Ann KIDDER, b1841 (marr. Horace PLUMLEY of VT) Mrs. Mary KIDDER died in early 1841 and Charles remarried in 1841 to Clarissa CROSBY. They ended up at the Poor Farm and no researcher had discovered they had a son there in 1846. Roscoe Vernon KIDDER, b1846, was sent to live with several families in NH after the death of his mother. At 18, he went off to fight in the Civil War and ended up in Topeka, Kansas. He married there and had children there. His descendants searched for many years to find out who his parents were. I was able to tell some of them. Because the men in this family were adults during the Civil War years, I'm assuming that they were soldiers, or helped in some way. But, I'm not finding information on them. Thank you for your time.
