Ella Anna Gross (Annie) B. Abt 1854 in Ohio M. to Joseph Aaron Durflinger Aug 1870 in De Witt, Il 1880 census has Annie, Joseph and a Daughter living in Van Wert county, Ohio Feb 1900 died at home. Children are: Charles (believe he died in infancy) John Wesley (M. Addie Williams) Roscoe Avery (M. Nellie Wolford) Ella Hestella (M. Samuel Hendrickson) I have checked numerous spellings for the last name, looked at both Ohio and Illinois census for 1870 but nothing fits for her. By 1900 census she has died. I have the obit for her but it says nothing about her family or really her. I have run into a dead end regarding the rest of her Family. I know she lived in Van Wert after marrying but I can find no location of birth or anything on her Parents. A Charles Gross witnessed her marriage and then to her Husbands 2nd marriage after her death. I can find nothing on Charles and barely more on Annie.Sometime between 1854 and 1870 she came to Illinois and was married but I cannot find her in either the 1860 or 1870 census. I am told that we have Indian heritage. I think it is in the Collins/McCune bloodline of my family from in & around Athens County, Ohio. To date, I have been able to trace John Richard Collins....born in Belleville, Wood County, W Virginia in 1798. (He and his wife...think he might have been married twice?) They had several children...the last being my great great grandmother, Mary Josephine Collins. His wife name was Elizabeth. They lived in Morgan Cty, Ohio when Mary was a child. That is all I know, but I feel that there is a connection to my Indian heritage here....I just can't find any more pieces of this puzzle. Author: luvzsun Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13510.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Hamilton County Probate Court's website says this, re death records: "Volumes 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 4. Original records were destroyed due to fire and floods. The public was encouraged to voluntarily come to court and record their families' death records. Due to those circumstances the records are not complete. Recorded dates of death are from July 9, 1881 to June 20, 1908." Another option would be church records which may include his name, address, date of death, when and where buried, cause of death and probably the pastor/priest that officiated at his services.
