The brother that survived Lulu, Leonard J. was also known as John Leonard CROSS. The informant on his 1950 death cert was Leo SCHWAN. Leo said that John was born 17 Dec 1868 in Hayesville, that John never married, that John's father was Silas Cross and that John's mother's maiden name was Mary STULL. Silas and Mary were married 1 Nov 1866 in Ashland Co. OH. Silas died 22 Aug 1895 in Ashland, age 55. Lulu and Frederick J. Schwan were married 10 Nov 1887 in Ashland Co. OH. This may be Mary in the 1850 Hanover, Ashland census: George Stull 55 PA, Mary 56 MD, George 30 OH, (male) W. 23 OH, (male) J. 22 OH, Phebe 8 OH and *Maria 8 OH. I am not related. Author: violin1clarinet2 Surnames: Walters Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13437.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Emily, I have a Silas Walters born around 1858 in Ohio in my family tree. I have been investigating this Silas Walters who married Cora Smith, and I found a few similarities. I had no 1860, 1870, or 1880 census for my Silas Walters, but I do have ones for 1900, 1920, and 1930. I could not find your Silas Walters in any census later than 1880. I was wondering if our Silas Walters may be the same person; the only problem being that my Silas Walters being married to a different person, Leatha Myers nee Stults at the same time. Would it be possible for him to have 2 families at the same time? I know that he divorced Leatha, and I think he divorced Cora as well, so this may be a cause? I can't find any other Silas walters born around the same time in Ohio, so I'm hoping that this is it! Thanks, Mark Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am the great-grandaughter of Sylvester Houser, but unfortunately, I really don't have much more information. Here is what I know: He was married to a woman but I'm unsure of her name - my mom believes it may start with the letter "M". He had one son named Robert (my grandfather). He had additional children as well, but the only name I know is George. My grandfather, Robert, really didn't talk about his family. Just that he was from Ohio and West Virginia. And someone in his family may have been of Cherokee decent. My grandfather was married to Betty Jane Gunther of Ohio. Daughter to Fred and Frances Gunther. She had one sister, Ruth. I cannot find any information on them either. This is turning out to be a lot more difficult than I expected. Any help would be much appreciated. My mom and her 3 older sisters would really like to know about the grandparents and other family members they never knew. Thank you for your time. It is farther north than I thought. I did find this link about Isaac and Jerusha and family from Licking county. It is a Harris family genealogy (Jerusha's maiden name)and contains their descendants. No Ruth that I saw, but it may help you rule out certain families you run across. There were several different pages of Jewell families included. Found it on the archive.org website. http://www.archive.org/stream/genealogicalbiog00keif#page/58/mode/2up Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: rbollmer1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13520.1.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: OK that family is still in EastUnion, Wayne, Ohio in 1850. Samuel born 1795 PA, Mary b. 1797 PA, Isaac b.1828 OH, Catherine b. 1829 OH, Nancy b.1831 OH, Samuel b. 1833 OH, David b. 1837 OH, Silas b. 1840 OH. Could have gotten Samuel's birth state wrong on this census? It seems with an older son named Isaac that he could be related to the Isaac in Licking. I think Wayne county is near Vinton and Athens counties in eastern OH. Licking is in the same area, but not sure how close. I know I had relatives in the Athens area and they frequented Newark, which I think is in Licking county, but that was the late 1890's early 1900's. I get so confused tracking the many branches of my family.... I got info from family member, relative of Ruth's grandaughter, Flora Viola Williams. Only had father's name. I found Isaac Jewell in 1850, 1860 Licking OH census with a Samuel b 1826 . Ruth born 1828 so NOT father, but I was thinking maybe Isaac b 1797 NJ was brother to Ruth's father. I just considered it as a possiblility. Ruth was married in 1848 St Joseph IN so would not be on 1850 census with parents. If you have any suggestions or clues, it would be appreciated.
