    1. [OHIO] A Family Mystery!
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: onexsmallxleafx93 Surnames: Unger Stevens Zimmerman Garl Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13543/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great great grandmother, Katherine Zimmerman(1885-1977) had a child when she was roughly 17 or 18 years old in 1903. It has long been a mystery who the father was of her daughter, Margaret (1903-1986). The family never really talked about it, but my grandpa has said that once he heard from either his mom or grandma that Margaret's last name was Unger. I was recently found a census record listed through Margaret's stepfather, George H. Plumley (1886-1964), that stated her last name was Stevens. Later on her life Margaret married Dr. Floyd R. Garl (1879-1955) . Like I mentioned earlier, the family never talked about Margaret's real father. I'm not sure what she went by before she married Floyd, but I would really like to know about more about this mystery! If you're in anyway related to a Stevens/Unger line and you think you might have some info, please let me know! I know it'll be hard to find, and pinpoint, but I'd really like to see if we can get to the bottom of this! Oh, and on the census it stated that both of Margaret's parents were born in Ohio, but I'm not sure where exactly. I also know that Katherine's father's name was Peter, and he was an immigrant from Germany. -Olivia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She had a son name Richard with her first husband Elijah. I am descendant from him and Rebecca Burrows. I have been doing research for a decade trying to prove my heritage. Do you know of there being any proof of her Adkins children in any rolls? I know askng you is far fetched but I am at a standstill and any info from anyone would be a great help and greatly appreciated. Author: jschwan185 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13535.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've heard that, but I have not found a direct connection to that particular Schwan family in my family tree. I have learned that Schwan was a very common name in Germany, like Smith or Jones here in the United States. I have found no relation to the Schwan family that owns and operates Schwan's Fine Foods, based in Wisconsin. There is also a Schwan family in Mansfield, OH that I don't find any relation to, that started and still owns Swan Cleaners in that town. My own Schwan family came from Bavaria in the 1860's, and settled in and around Mifflin and Hayesville, OH, which is not far from Mansfield, and Ashland, OH. Doesn't look as though there's any claim to fame in my particular family tree.... Thanks for the info, though! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
