I was only referring to the Bernards because on familysearch's webpage it lists everyone below Levi, in his household 36, as Bernard. When you look at the actual image you can see Sophia and their children listed in household 36 under Levi. It lists Hugh as being 11. Thank you for the info, these census I am finding out not to be to accurate at all. There are so much conflicting data on many of them. I have seen one census of person A list his birthplace in state X then in the very next census list it in another state! I agree though, 1880 and on the census were much better. Thank you. These statements explain WHY you will not be able to find Levi' parents in the census records - Facts you should know about the early census records - All census records [1790 - 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female. NO specific age was stated for any family member NO place of birth was stated - city, state, or country NO city, town, or village is stated - only the county; however some census takers listed the township NO street address was stated NO marital status was stated - single, married, widowed, or divorced NO family relationship was stated - brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc. NO occupation was stated NO parental birthplaces are stated NO race was stated [but assume "white"] 1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces. Step children are not enumerated as "step" children Adopted children are not enumerated as "adopted" Grand children are not enumerated as "grand children" Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan" 1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members 1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces By 1850 which is the 1st census to show all family members levi will be abt 40. In order to find Levi's parents you must find him with them or they must be living close by. 1850 - Levi is household #36 William Bernard is household #35 [directly above Levi] View the image again. I think I found them. Kenneth was living in MI when she died. I did a search for Kenneth Finicle on familysearch.org and found one, then I found another one on faq.org/people-search that had a Kenneth Finicle dying in 1968 in the same town in MI, so I'm going to assume that it's the same one. Then I searched for him on here, hoping to find one with the same parents as what's on familysearch. I'm about 99% sure I found the right family. She is never going to appear on the census with her family. She was born in Oct 1880, that is probably after the census taker came around. The 1890 census is gone, and she is married by the 1900 census. That is why I had so much trouble finding them. Thank goodness a brother out lived her, otherwise I'd still be lost. Beall married a Kate Kistler on 10 Feb 1891 in Coryell, Texas. The death information for their son, George, lists the mothers name as Kate M. Kistler too. You can contact Coryell County and see if the marriage information includes the parents names, you can also check at the church where they married, it they used a church. The name "Hammond" isn't your typical middle name, and more than likely is a surname associated with the family, in other words, his mother's maiden name may have been Hammond. Born Oct 1880 in Shelby or Mansfield, Richland County, OH. Married 1896 to Edward Rist. I found the marriage info, but cannot find anything on her birth. Without that I cannot start her tree since I can't find who her parents were. I know she has a brother named Kenneth, not sure if he is older or younger and her parents were born in Ohio (father) and Missouri (Mother). Found the parents birthplaces from a later census and the brother's name from her obit. Anyone have any suggestions on what else to do? I've been to familysearch.org. I contacted the Richland Co records office and they said there is no Axie Anna born there. Next will be the state board of health to get the death cert. Not sure if it will tell me anything. I had never been able to locate Rose Adams and her father John in the 1920 census in California in previous searches. Thanks to your mention of finding them in LA in 1920 but that the DOBs were off, I did a revised search without my dates and there they were! I know it's them because everything else fits except the DOBs. John did own a confectionary store John was actually born in 1849 and Rose in either 1875 or 1876. I noticed that the census was taken on Jan 23, 1920 but Rose and Arthur weren't married until March 3, 1920. So that explains why Arthur is not listed with them. Thanks for helping me find another piece of the family puzzle. My search for the whereabouts of Arthur in 1920 continues! I'm grateful for any potential leads to check out. The variation in surname spelling doesn't concern me as I soon found out that it is a pretty common occurrence in genealogy records along with different dates of birth. One surname in my tree is spelled Groesbeck, Grewsbeck, Groosbeck, Groesbeek, Gruesbeek! In regards to # 2 - John Adams is my great-great grandfather and Rose is my great grand aunt. Some time after the 1910 census in New York, Rose, her widowed father John, her sister Katharine "Kitty" (along with her husband Harry) moved to California. I don't know if they all went together or if Rose and John followed Kitty later on. They are all still living in upstate NY in the 1910 census. Their married sister Rita, my great grandmother, remained in New York. Neither Rose or Kitty had children. Since Rose was from New York and Arthur from Ohio, I presume that they met out in California. I know that they were married in March so I'll have to check the date when the 1920 census in California was taken to see if it was before or after they were married. The Thomas McDougall in the 1910,1920, and 1930 census in California sounds worthwhile exploring further - maybe a brother as you suggested. Wonder how I missed him in my searches! I will also check out the Thomas McDougal in the 1880 census for Ohio. It is difficult when I have so little info on the "MacDougalls" to start with. I was happy to find that Arthur's parents were listed on his marriage cert but with no DOBs for them or given name for his mother, it's hard to narrow down the all the possibilities. Too bad genealogy isn't a exact science! Thank you for your time and efforts on my behalf. I really appreciate it. Pat Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
