Author: jennsunshine Surnames: Brautigan, Cook, Gibson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13594/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on Elsbeth (Elizabeth) Brautigan Gibson, who was a maternal great-grandmother. I believe she immigrated from Germany around 1880 to Ohio, and approximately in 1902 she married my great-grandfather, Andrew Ledlie Gibson. My grandfather (their son) was Theodore R. Gibson, born in 1903. My mother (Theodore's daughter) is Virginia M. Gibson Allen, who is also the daughter of the late Virginia Cook Gibson. I have been able to locate a significant amount of information on the Cook and Gibson side of the family; however, I can find very little about Elsbeth Brautigan Gibson. I am not even sure if I am correctly spelling her maiden name. I would like 'complete the circle', so to speak and see if I can learn anything else about Elsbeth's family history. Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jennifer Allen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am trying to find out whether my Catharina Maushard Boehles would have had other family in Ohio that she might have come to after her husband died. I can't imagine her traveling to America, with three young children, without having other family already here. I just don't know who that family might have been, thus the general search for Maushard relatives. THANK YOU for you help. These statements explain WHY you will not find the parents of JOHN H. MAKINSON together in the census pages - Facts you should know about the early census records - All census records [1790 - 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female. NO specific age was stated for any family member NO place of birth was stated - city, state, or country NO city, town, or village is stated - only the county; however some census takers listed the township NO street address was stated NO marital status was stated - single, married, widowed, or divorced NO family relationship was stated - brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc. NO occupation was stated NO parental birthplaces are stated NO race was stated [but assume "white"] 1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces. Step children are not enumerated as "step" children Adopted children are not enumerated as "adopted" Grand children are not enumerated as "grand children" Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan" 1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members 1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: chatterchit Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13590.8.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I recommend NOT using info out of other people's trees. Most of the time it is NOT accurate. You should look at trees as suggestions and then find the records or publications which back up (or disprove) that information. Ancestry.com really does genealogy a disservice by encouraging everyone to share trees! You need to change your tree since Joel's marriage record has his parents as: Father: David Kirby and Mother: Rachel Jane Cary. Joel would have provided that information himself, so it would have been accurate. A good place for you to start would be getting a beginning genealogy book from your library. That could give you a good foundation re: how to search and what standards to use. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [OHIO] Seeking info on genealogy of Ernest Martin Haines of Ohio
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jplissner1953 Surnames: Haines, Dart, Bogue Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/13586/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am researching the family and genealogy of my wife, Pauline Haines, daughter of Ernest Martin and Naomi Greenup Haines. Ernest Martin was born Earnest Martin on Mar. 15, 1923 and died in Concrete, WA on April 13, 1968. His parents were both deceased by the time he and Naomi Greenup married in 1950. I am seeking information on his parents. The birth certificate lists his father as Earnest Hue Haines and his mother as Pauline Agnes Dart. Earnest is listed as 35 and Pauline as 22. The only information which might point to an Earnest H Haines born in 1888 is in the 1920 census, where an Earnest H Haines is listed at the Washington D.C. Navy Yard. The only Pauline Agnes Dart I can find born in 1901 was born in New London, CT, and is listed on the 1920 census as Pauline A. Bogue, the wife of Clarence E. Bogue, with two baby sons. On the 1930 census, the two sons are found in the New Haven County Home, and Pauline Dart (Bogue) (Haines) (?) is nowhere to be found. One would think that Pauline Agnes Dart, my wife's grandmother, couldn't be the same as the daughter of Robert Manwaring and Leona Dart of New London Ct. Except for the fact that the Connecticut History Online website features the shipyard of one Franklin G. Post in Mystic Ct. Among the pictures is young Ernest Martin Haines, along with his grandfather Robert Manwaring Dart, and a few of the Bogue family. The resemblance is uncanny, and there is no mistaking my wife's father, even at the age of 20. Further, we know that Ernest Martin Haines entered the military in 1943 at New London, and his discharge gives an address in Groton. So....I am convinced that this Pauline Agnes Dart is my wife's grandmother. However, she is found in the New Haven directory as Pauline Bogue in 1937 and 1938 with Clarence E Bogue. In 1939, she is listed alone. We know from my wife's father that his father, Earnest Hue died somewhere in the 1920's or 1930's, and his mother Pauline Agnes died somewhe! re between 1943 and 1949. However, we can find no death, obituary or burial record for Pauline Agnes Dart/Haines/Bogue. And, except for the 1920 census, there is no definitive tie to the Earnest Hue Haines, born in 1888. Please email me personally at jplissner1953@gmail.com with any information on Earnest Hue Haines and/or Pauline Agnes Dart. Thanks.
