They actually spelled it Marqait. The area was called Brooklyn Township. At that time Philip and Joseph lived with them. They were on pages 442-443. In the city directory in 1861 the name was spelled Marquot. It would be interesting to find the immigration papers to see how it was spelled. I read somewhere that Marquard meant boundary guard. In Tubingen Germany which is close to Baden Baden there was a restaurant that mentioned the Marquards It was on Herienberger St. 34 which was called Sills Scwabisch and specialized in vegt dishes. There was also Spielzerg Museum in Bad Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In 1991, my cousin presented me with the honor & responsibility of being presented our Algonquian Nation / Shawnee tribe/ Kispokotha Septs Ancient Sacred STONEhead Warclub, from our Shawnee Tribal`s Ancient Sacred Bundle. This Sacred Warclub pipe is not to be confused with Tecumseh`s other "metal axe head" warclub pipe that is made of wood & metal & has hearts of pearl inlaid on the pipe & stem, that is wrongfully in the posession of the Ohio Historical Society in their museum, as that one also belongs to our Shawnee tribe. Our Ancient Sacred Stonehead Warclub, which is in my posession, has been passed down quietly through our Shawnee Kispoko from the beginning of our Shawnee tribe. The lore was passed along with it. The specific "stonehead" of my Warclub is the one that our original tribal people slew the serpent with in southern Ohio, at present day Serpent Mound in Adam`s Co. Ohio, as it is the one that fell out of the crown that the serpent was wearing when thrown from the heavens, as the lore goes. The holders name & lineage is on the stone, & yes I can see my name thereupon the stone, & also what tribe I belong to. There is other writing & markings upon the stone as well. I have information which may be of interest to you personally. It confirms that the Tyner family intermarried with Tecumseh`s Shawnee family & Webster Tyner was a great -grandson of Tecumseh. TYNER is a Cherokee/ Shawnee name. Many of the descendants of Tecumseh share the name. I am honored to meet you, as you & I are related to Tecumseh, & proud of the fact as well! Dempsey Tyner, born in 1755, married a Cherokee woman named Obedience. He fought in the Revolutionary War & lived until Oct. 13, 1842. He was buried in Tyner Station cemetary near Chattanooga, Tennessee. By his Cherokee wife, he had 12 children. One son, Lewis B. Tyner, moved to Missouri in 1851. Lewis Tyner Jr. moved with his brother, Jesse to Logan County, Arkansas. A son of Lewis Tyner Jr. named Lewis Babe Tyner, was born Aug. 25, 1865, & he died Oct. 18, 1937. Lewis Babe Tyner married Martha Elizabeth Tyner in 1887, & they were the parents of 12 children including Robert Lee Tyner, born 1888 at Gore, Indian Territory....TYNER was already a common name among the Cherokees. See SOCC, vol.II,pg. 294. (I can list these from the 1880 census of the Cooweescoowee District of the Cherokee Nation if you do not have it....let me know, OK?) Lewis Tyner was an employee of the Absentee Shawnee Boarding School in 1894. See JAIFR, vol. VIII, #4, pg.28 If you already have this info, perhaps it can serve as a connection for others still searching. Have a blessed day! AM said somewhere in Ohio near a big city (did not remember which one). I was thinking that Evans my have been her grandmothers last name??? My BM was of Irish and Cherokee Indian decent according to Non- ID info. Non-ID info said she had dark wavy hair, hazel eyes with very long eyelashes and darker complection. AM told me my BM had a very good posture. BM did not like sports much but did like to read and sew. Only had a 7th or 8th grade education. If so, and I believe it must be, we've met. I'm your niece, Joy's, mother-in-law. I've been reasearching her family lines (and yours) for a couple of years now. It's great fun. You all come from very interesting folks. Since I first posted this inquiry, I've come across a number of sources which state that Rosina was born in Oregon. I also have a couple of sources (Oregon Death Index and the U.S. Veterans Gravesites website) which give a death date of May 18, 1695 for Lawrence. If you've got a source for the May 15th date, perhaps the 18th was when he was buried. What do you think? I appreciate you taking the time to write and I hope all is going well with you and yours. I am doing a tree of my wife's family and a lot of problems are with girls who have the family name, then marry. They just disappear. In my wife's family, the sister of her father, I found in his obit, listing her new last name and where she lived in 1958. I never had any success (in tracking her down) until last year. In talking with a sister of my wife, the person I was searching for was buried in a cemetery less than five miles from our current home. Not only that, she was buried with her husband and, in the same cemetery, was her daughter. A son moved to Maryland and he is the one I am trying to track down now. Anyway, as in the case above, the more questions you ask of different people, something usually pops up. Good luck in your search.
