    1. [OHIO] BAKER - SLOAN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph which was taken somewhere in Ohio and mailed by "Edith" (no surname) to a cousin - Mrs. Clayton BAKER in Smyrna, MI. The photograph was on the back of a postcard which was mailed from Ohio (community name cannot be made out) to Mrs. BAKER on 17 May 1910. The photograph is taken of a large home with two women and three children on the porch and in the front yard. The two in the yard appear to be boys from about 4-11 years old, there is a toddler on the porch with two women appearing to be in their 20's or 30's. There is also a buggy in front of a barn behind the home. The message on the back of the photograph reads "Dear Cousin - I thought would answer your card, was glad to hear from. Would like to see you it was been about sixteen years since I seen you. This is myself and children, sister-in-law and nephew. Answer, signed Edith" Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Clayton Charles BAKER was b. 28 Apr 1876 in Nirvana, MI to parents John BAKER (1830-1913) and Susan Anna "Annie" CONDON (b. 1850). Clayton married Florence A. SLOAN (1886-1929) and they had two daughters, Helen Vivian BAKER (1918-2009) and Bertha Louise BAKER (1925-2018). His wife was Florence Arvilla "Flossie" or "Lassa" SLOAN b. 30 Jun 1886 in Montcalm Co. MI to parents Dennis H. SLOAN (1852-1923) and Susanne or Susanna A. HAMLIN (1850-1939). Florence was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Elmer; James; Florence; Claud L.; and John W. SLOAN all born between 1872 and 1894. Flossie's mother was married previously and had another daughter, Blanche M. LYON (b. 1869). Flossie died 12 Oct 1929 in Smyrna, MI and is buried in the Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, MI. Clayton BAKER died 16 Jan 1959 in Smyrna, MI. We believe that Edith was a cousin to Florence SLOAN BAKER but it is also possible that Edith was a cousin to Clayton. I'm hoping to locate someone from Edith's family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [OHIO] [EXTERNAL] RICHARDSON - THEOBALD Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs of William Lambert RICHARDSON and Lena THEOBALD RICHARDSON. William's photograph was taken in New York City, NY and both appear to have been taken in the 1890's. William appears to be in his 20's at the time and Lena is likely in her teens or 20's when her photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following regarding the couple: William Lambert RICHARDSON was b. 4 Jun 1872 in Porter's Landing, ME to parents Charles W. RICHARDSON and Caroline "Clemie" ROGERS. William was one of three children born to this couple including, Edith M.; William Lambert; and Sarah A. RICHARDSON, all born between 1870 and 1873. William married Emma "Lena" Magdolina or Magdalen or Magalena or Magdolena THEOBALD (1880-1948) on 28 Jan 1904 in Ashtabula, OH and together they had one child. William died 26 Sept 1948 in Youngstown, OH and is buried in the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngtown, OH. Williams 1918 draft registration card indicates that he was living in Young, OH and working as a clerk at the Brianhill Steel Co. with Emma M. RICHARDSON noted as his next of kin. Emma Lena Magdolena THEOBALD was b. 8 Aug 1880 in Penn Station, PA to parents Joseph John THEOBALD (1850-1930) and Augustina Hermine THOMAS (1852-1938). Emma Lena was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Augusta Ernestine; Anna Louise; Emma "Lena" Magdolena; Joseph John; Henry; Thomas Oscar; Bertha Dorothea; and Albert Lewis THEOBOLD, all born between 1874 and 1894. Emma Lena died 3 Jan 1948 in Youngstown, OH and is buried in the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, OH. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Montrose W. SMYTHE of Ashley, OH which was taken in the 1880's with Montrose was about 4-5 years old. Pictured along with Montrose is his dog. Also recovered along with the photograph was a calling card for Montrose. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Montrose and his family: Montrose W. SMYTHE was b. 26 Oct 1879 in Westfield, OH to parents William F. SMYTHE (1855-1913) and Mary R. FISK (1856-1931). Montrose had a brother Clark N. SMYTHE (1892-1930). 3. Hi Ann: I don't know if you have all the following information on the marriage certificate, but I did a quick look on Ancestry turned up the following which gives birthplace and parents' names: Name: Robert Martin Marriage Date: 21 May 1921 Form Type: Marriage Age: 44 Gender: Male Birth Year: abt 1877 Birth Place: Highland Pk Ills Father: Ernest Martin Mother: Alvina Wissinger Spouse: Mrs Stella Snyder <https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?viewrecord=1&r=an&db=CuyahogaOHmarriages&indiv=try&h=2738176> Spouse Age: 32 Spouse Birth Year: abt 1889 Spouse Father: Frank Hann Spouse Mother: Barbara Kahoun Do you have Ancestry.com?  I use it as a starting point, but I also do a search online with something like "Robert Martin and Stella Hahn Snyder, married May 21, 1921, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio", with the quotes. Do you have a middle initial for Robert?  With a common name, it helps to narrow the results. The 1930 and 1940 census are online. Also, with his parents' names, you can go all the way back to the 1880 census, the first census after Robert's birth.  (Much of the 1890 census was destroyed due to fire and water damage where they were stored in 1921.) I hope this helps get you started on your search.  If I can be of further help, let me know. So far, I've been unsuccessful in finding any details regarding the birth of a child and possibly a marriage of her parents there. According to the England Censuses, Marie Veronica REILLY was born in Ohio around 1884. 1891 Census: aged 7 birthplace Ohio USA. 1901 Census: aged 17 birthplace America Naturalised. 1911 Census: (now married, surname MOULTON) aged 27 birthplace Canton, USA. The 1939 Register says she was born on 09 Jun 1885, but this register doesn't include a birthplace. According to the 1891 and 1901 England Censuses, her parents are Michael REILLY and his wife Bridget. There doesn't appear to be a marriage in England between Michael and Bridget, and so far I've been unable to find one in Ohio. It's also not been possible to find Michael in the 1881 England Census, so I was wondering if maybe he is in Ohio, but so far I've not had any joy in finding him there in the 1880 US Census. It's obvious that at the very least, Bridget and Marie must have travelled back to the UK at some point between Marie's birth and the 1891 Census, but so far I've had little joy finding any likely entries for them on passenger lists. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I may be able to find out more details regarding this small family, particularly in relation to Ohio please?
