James Jones, Norwalk, Ohio Perhaps you could give me a lead where I might find a biographical sketch or obituary of Col James Jones (Norwalk, Ohio) who was the first commander of the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 1861-1863. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tom J. Edwards Edwardst@flo.tec.sc.us Tom, I am forwarding your question to the OHHURON-L@rootsweb.com perhaps someone can help you more than I can. I have a limited number of resources here and encourage people to send obituaries and biographies to me to post on the site. Good luck! The following are from the Huron County Cemetery Inscriptions c.1987 James Jones 1827-1894 pg. 302 Lyme township Strongs ridge cemetery James from clarksfield d. 22 Mar 1904 age 81 yrs pg 477 Infirmary Cemetery James bur. 20 May 1893 Woodlawn cemetery pg. 682 James P. bur. 22 Mar 1904 pg. 682 Woodlawn cemetery St. Josephs Catholic cemetery James V. d. 1982 pg. 744 There was no reference to a James Jones in the Commemorative Biographical record of the counties of Huron and Lorain, Ohio, containing biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens, and of many of the early settled Families. Chicago: Beers 1894. I found one reference to a Col. James A. Jones in the Baughman History of Huron County, Ohio with revised index, printed in 1998. Vol. 1, pg 142. "The names of citizens, wide-awake then, are now chiseled in marble and granite. Some of them live again in their children: Wickham, Kennan, Gibbs, Carter, Baker, Benedict, Gallup, Colonel James A. Jones and brothers, surely are honored yet in that community." This was a paragraph in the section An Interesting Paper, read at the May 1, 1907 meeting of the Firelands Historical Society. Vol. 1, page 55: roll of honor of the incorporators of the Whittlesey Academy of Arts and Sciences organized in 1854. J. A. Jones. listed among others. Good luck, Rebecca
