Any info on Josephine Schank (Could also be under Schenk or Shank) who married a Claus. I know she is listed on page 791 of the Cemetery Inscription book. Any info you might find would be greatly appreciated. Mary >> Hi Mary, There is quite a bit of information on the CLAUS and SCHANK families in our History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909. A biographical sketch on Mathias CLAUS, husband of Josephine SCHANK, appears in Volume 2, Pages 347-348. Also, a sketch on William B. CLAUS, son of Mathias and Josephine (SCHANK) CLAUS, appears in Volume 2, Pages 290-292. Both of these sketches contain considerable detail on Mathias and Josephine CLAUS and their parents. There is another detailed biographical sketch on Mathias CLAUS, his service during the Civil War, and his family, in our Military History of Huron County, Ohio, (Civil War) by HCC/OGS, 1989. This appears on page 17. The information from the above sources is too lengthy and detailed to try to gist here. Consequently, I suggest you try to get copies of the relevant pages from the Norwalk Public Library. Contact Debbie Orth at orthde@oplin.lib.oh.us to see if she can accommodate you. Alternately, you can buy copies of both publications from HCC/OGS. On the HCC/OGS web site, the link for book sales shows the Baughman book for sale at $65.00 for non-Ohio residents, including s/h. The Military History publication sells for $7.00 for non-Ohio residents, plus s/h. Other references I found: 1. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications. Mathias CLAUS m.
