Marriage lookups Date: 9/11/00 12:10:33 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: richkurlich@hotmail.com (Rich Kurlich) To: kwsroots@aol.com Hi, I ran across your name as a lookup volunteer for Huron Co., OH. This is very generous of you to make such an offer and I hope that you are still willing to check your book. If so, I am looking for a marriage between a Merritt Smith and Francis Curtis(s) (with an "i" but "e" may be possible). They had a least one child, Eugene Lester Smith b. 1 sept. 1873 in Huron Co., so presumably the marriage took place in the 1860s or late 1850s. Could you please check marriage records for the above people. Thank you very, very much. sincerely, richkurlich@hotmail.com >> Hi Rich, I didn't find the marriage of Merritt SMITH and Francis CURTIS in our Huron County, Ohio Marriage book. The closest I could come was a Frances E. CURTISS who m. a Robert SMITH 5 Sep 1866. But, according to other information in our publications, this Frances E. (CURTISS) SMITH and Robert SMITH d. 1872 and 1871 respectively, before the birth of your Eugene Lester SMITH who was b. 1 Sep 1873. The only information I could find on your family was in our 1870 Census Index of Huron County, Ohio. Following are SMITHs found on census page 292 for Fitchville Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. Charley, 14, MI Francis, 32, OH Luella, 3, OH Merrit, 40, VT Merrit, 9, IA. >From the ages and places of birth of the children, it would appear that this family was in Michigan ca 1856, where Francis and Merrit might have been married ca 1854-1856. By ca 1861 the family was in Iowa, and by ca 1867 the family was in Ohio. Merrit SMITH is not listed in the 1880 Census Index for Huron County, Ohio. Regards, Ken Shute, in MD (kwsroots@aol.com).
