Sharon, et al, Connecticut was the Nutmeg State until redesignated in 1959 as the Constitution State. Since it was the Nutmeg State naturally it citizens would be known as Nutmeggers. They also made and sold wooden nutmegs, hence the State Name. Hope this helps, D. My name is Sharon Sandoval, and I am looking into some family history in Huron County, mainly in the township of Lyme. In the history section there was a line about those who prior to locating in Lyme from Connecticut, were Nutmeggers! What does "Nutmeggers" mean? Wonderful and informative web-site!
