This item mentions that Richard T. SLATER was born 17 Aug 1857 in North Fairfield, Ohio. His parents were John and Isabelle (CROW) SLATER. John was a native of Connecticut, while Isabelle was a native of Quebec, Canada. John SLATER, the father, was a blacksmith by trade, which trade he practiced in North Fairfield. He was 52 years old when he enlisted in the Union Army--and served for three years in Co. B, 123rd O.V.I. He was captured twice by the enemy, and imprisoned at Andersonville, and also at Belle Isle. Eventually, he was exchanged in both cases. He died in 1887 at age 77, and buried in the North Fairfield cemetery. Isabelle, his wife, died 28 Sep 1908 and was buried at New Buffalo, Michigan. 6.
