Gray who died 1905, clarksfield. >> Hi Alta, I couldn't find any record of a Legrand Gray, s/o Samuel D. Gray, in our Huron County, Ohio publications, but I did find a number of references to Samuel D. Gray, some of which you might not have. Perhaps these might give you new Ohio locations to check for the whereabouts of Legrand. They are: 1. Cemetery Inscriptions, Huron County, Ohio. Clarksfield Methodist Church, Clarksfield Twp. Page 39. Old Part 1841-- Row 5 North. 10 Samuel D. Gray 1823-1905 (Lot 9, Block 3.) 2. Huron County Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications. Samuel D. Gray m. Mary Scott 12 Oct 1848, old book 3, page 100. 3. Online IGI (www.familysearch.org). Samuel D. Gray, b. 15 Dec 1823, Clarksville, Clinton, Ohio. Father: Abraham Gray. Mother: Anna Starr. 4. Ancestry.com. a. The Ohio State Message Board. Message # 693, Thursday November 04, 1999. Posted by: Marilyn. Message: "Gray, Scott, Smith, Starr 1800's. Joseph, Abraham, Samuel d. Gray. Mary Scott, Isaac Scot, Almira Smith. Anna Starr. Would like info on rest of families. Also Samuel Elza Deweese." (Note: I could not find an email address for "Marilyn." I believe any replies have to be posted back to the Message Board..) b. Ohio Census, 1790-1890. This lists a Samuel D. Gray in Warren County, Clear Creek Township, for the years 1840 (page 171), 1850 (page 849), and 1860 (page 300). (Note: Warren County, Ohio abuts Clinton County, Ohio to the west, on our map of Ohio. Clarksville, Clinton County, Ohio is just on the border with Warren County.) c. Civil War Service Records. This lists a Private Samuel D. Gray as assigned to Company B, 3 Ohio Infantry. Were you aware of this parallel interest in your Gray family by "Marilyn," and also the apparent residences of Samuel D. Gray in Warren and Clinton Counties, Ohio? Regards, Ken Shute
