You can view the Cemetery Index on the HCC/OGS home page (www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron). What particular Erswell(s) are you interested in? Regards, Ken Shute
Charles Edward and Mary Ann (Snow) Erswell came to the United States about 1834. Story is that the captain believed Maria to have died on board ship. But her mother would not throw her overboard and then she recovered. Clara Betsey Erswell was born in 1835 at the port of entry, New York City.(Time frame works). The 1840 US Census lists Charles Erswell. In his household are one male 30 and under 40; one male under 5 (Charles, the oldest son); females one 30 and under 40 (Mary Ann Snow); and three 5 and under 10 (Lorah or Sarah, Maria, and Betsey, perhaps) and two under five (Eliza and ?). Mary Ann (Snow) Erswell died 27 May 1849 in North Royalton, Cuyahoga County Ohio. There is a grave stone marked as follows: Mary Ann Wife of C. Erswell Died May 27, 184?(2 or 9 - ? evidently 9) ?1 years (? Evidently 4) DOES ANYONE KNOW NAME OF CEMETERY??? In the 1850 Cuyahoga County Ohio, Royalton Township Census, it is listed that a Betsey Erswell, 16 and born in New York, is living with Stephen Wilcox family. This Census also lists Charles Erswell, 46, born in England; Mary Redrup, 68, born in England; Lorah or Sarah Erswell, 18, born in England; Maria, 17, born in England; Then Eliza, 12; Charles, 14; Thomas, 9; Henry, 7; Edward, 5; and Mary, 3, all born in Ohio. In the 1860 Cuyahoga County Ohio Royalton Twp. Census, Maria is married to Orson McLaflin(page 308). Edward Erswell, 13, lives with them. Charles Erswell - farmer, 52, Henry - 16, and Mary - 13 are also listed (page 310). Charles Erswell, shingle maker) - 23, lives in East Townsend, Huron County, with Eliza - 20, Thomas, shingle maker - 18 and Edwin McLaughlin - 17.
