The records for the State Pen. in Columbus have been preserved and might have something on your ancestor; records much older than your date (1829-1849) can still be obtained. I sent a small donation and a SASE, along with a letter stating my ancestor's name and date of imprisonment to the following and received a photocopy of his prison registry which contains much helpful information: Ohio Historical Society Archives/Library Division 1982 Velma Avenue Columbus, OH 43211-2497 This was a couple of years ago so I don't know if the address is the same; would be worth a try.
