Just Like Old Times, Book II, by Henry Timman, published originally in the Norwalk Reflector Article titled: "Tracker John Rule" dated Jan. 7, 1977. The article describes John H. Rule as a blacksmith by trade, but also an expert tracker of escaped criminals in the early days of Norwalk. He was a native of Scotland and came to Norwalk from Cayuga County, NY in 1832. (Following the above, the article continues with a description of how John Rule tracked down two criminal fugitives) The Rule family in Norwalk lived for a time on Whittlesey Ave., just north of Washington St., but made their last home at No. 54 North Foster St. This home was the home of their son James H. Rule who was an employee (or owner at times) of the former EXPERIMENT newspaper in Norwalk.. Also mentioned in this same article: The John H. Rule family, consisting of wife Deborah and several small children, came to Ohio from Cayuga County via the Erie Canal and Lake Erie. Mrs. Deborah Rule was one of the several "Mothers of Israel." These selfless women spent hours nursing the sick, soothing the dying, dressing the dead for burial, and more cheerfully, washing and dressing newborn babies. 9.
