Hi All, Well, Ken has been busy keeping me busy.... We now have Greenwich, Lyme, Norwalk, and Ridgefield Township Plat Maps on-line. Go to the Huron County Archive page and click on Plat Map. There are four plat maps for each county. I'll let you know when we have a few more up there. Enjoy. While I'm at it, we are working on a church page. We hope to be able to find names for all churches that have been with in Huron County. For those churches we will be looking for pastors/priests names and membership lists along with a short history of each church. If you have any information about any churches in Huron County, please let me know. Hi, Judy There was a Baptist Church at East Townsend, Townsend Township, Huron County, at approximately where the most recent addition to the fire station is, but a little north and east , on the lot where the state park used to be. That church was moved when the state took over the property for a roadside park, and it was moved over to a new location on the south side of Route 20, along the east side of Hartland Center Road. It sat there for many years and was used as a barn/garage, behind a house on Hartland Center Road formerly owned by Mrs. Alice Stacey. It was still standing during the 1970's, but has since been torn down. My Dad, Hugh Griffin, owned the former buggy shed for that church, and it is still standing on his former farm, at the northeast corner of Route 20 and DeRussey Road. The Collins United Methodist Church was formerly the Methodist Church at East Townsend. It was a very old frame structure, built before the Civil War. It stood along the east side of Hartland Center Road, north of the town hall building. This old frame Methodist Church building was used for many years as the Townsend Grange Hall, after the "new" brick church was built on its present site next door to the former Townsend School on Hartland Center Road. The old frame church/grange building became badly deteriorated due to its extreme age, and was razed some years ago by a controlled burning, by the Townsend Fire Department. Thanks for all of your work. You are doing a fantastic job. Sometime (in your spare time, Ha Ha) maybe you could have a section on log houses/buildings which are still viable, though modified in appearance. There are still some old log houses still being lived in, in rural areas of Huron County. Very interesting. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Kelble" <jkelble@accnorwalk.com> To: <OHHURON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2001 7:48 AM Subject: [OHHURON-L] Plat Maps > Hi All, > Well, Ken has been busy keeping me busy.... > We now have Greenwich, Lyme, Norwalk, and Ridgefield Township Plat Maps > on-line.
