I am descended from one of his sons, Mark Myers, on my father's side. Another ancestor of mine, Benedict Smith, also lived in Ridgefield Twp. and married a Catherine Myers in the early 1840's. 3. I just re-joined this list after finding a couple leads, that once again take me back to Huron Co., OH.. (A Mr Ken Shute, was kind enough to help me on Sept. 8, 1998 in finding marriage records for my GGrandfather Argalus REED). I was hoping someone out there could, help in finding some information on Harriet and/or Laura HUBBELL. I believe Laura Hubbell married Daniel SHERMAN in Huron Co, OH ... no hard proof. My Grandfathers name was HUBBELL REED, he had a brother named SHERMAN REED. I've recently found some information at LDS that both HUBBELL and SHERMAN may have been my ancestors Surnames and that they might have been from Monrieville, Huron Co. OH. I believe Harriet Hubbell and Joseph Reed were Argalus' parents. I sure could use some help, and would be grateful for it. Thank You, Jeanne (Reed) Gaylord in SW-MO

    3. To add a few details to Ken's reply: Philip's mother was Anna Maria ORPHEY (not Orley). She was born in Schmittweiler, GER, 18 May 1810. Her parents were Johann Paul ORPHEY and Elisabethe WEIS. Philip's father, Frank (Franz MUELLER), was born 14 Nov 1806 in Bruecken, GER. His parents were Franz MUELLER and Elisabethe BAUER. They were married 14 Jan 1833 in Kuebelberg, GER (the village of Schmittweiler used the church in Kuebelberg). I believe they lived in Bruecken until they emigrated. They arrived 19 April 1852 on the ship Orleans from LeHavre to New York. The above info is from the Kuebelberg Family Book (FHL film no. 0400413) and the passenger arrival record. --Dave Velten ----- Original Message ----- From: <Kwsroots@aol.com> To: <OHHURON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 3:18 PM Subject: [OHHURON-L] Re: MILLER, ORLEY In a message dated 8/9/00 2:54:25 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Femailman@aol.com writes: To add a few details to Ken's reply: Phil << Subj: HCC%20lookup Date: 8/9/00 2:54:25 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: Femailman@aol.com To: kwsroots@aol.com Dear Ken: A few weeks back I sent in a request for information on my great great Grandfather, Philip Miller. Jacob settling in Huron County, Leonard settling in Richland [later Ashland, and no, they didn't move] county. I answered a query from a lady in Florida on Croninger, and found out she was a decendant of Jacob and her sister lives in Plymouth, about 6 miles from me!!!! Ohhh, what a small world we live in. And these computers sure come in handy, when they're working. My phone has been out since the 6th, so I'm behind again! But doesn't look too bad, maybe 4 or 5 look ups. Then I will have to go back through my old mail and see if I've missed anything from when my PC was down. A grave digger I am!!! But I at least see the light quite often, I'll bet you don't!!!! 3. For all the teachers that are on their way (or already) starting school for the 2000-2001 year. Blessings on thee! ;-) Have the best year possible! Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning. Not only that, I'm to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, behaviorally modify disruptive behavior, and observe them for signs of abuse, drugs, and T-shirt messages. I am to fight the war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for guns and raise their self-esteem. I'm to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, how and where to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook and how to apply for a job, but I am never to ask if they are in this country illegally. I am to check their heads occasionally for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of potential antisocial behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and oh yeah, teach, always making sure that I give the girls in my class fifty percent of my attention. I'm required by my contract to be working, on my own time, summer and evenings and at my own expense towards additional certification, advance certification and a master's degree, to sponsor the cheerleaders or the sophomore class and after school I am to attend committee and faculty meetings and participate in staff development training to maintain my current certification and employment status. I am to collect data and maintain all records to support and document our building's progress in the selected state mandated program to "assess and upgrade educational excellence in the public schools." I am to be a paragon of virtue larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority. I am to pledge allegiance to supporting family values, a return to the basics, and my current administration. I am to incorporate technology into the learning, but monitor all web sites for appropriateness while providing a personal one-on-one relationship with each student. I am to decide who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit crimes in school or who is possibly being abused and I can be sent to jail for not mentioning these suspicions to those in authority. I am to make sure ALL students pass the state and federally mandated testing and all classes, whether or not they attend school on a regular basis or complete any of the work assigned. I am to communicate frequently with each student's parent by letter, phone, newsletter, and grade card. I'm to do all of this with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a 30 minute or less plan time, and a big smile on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps in many states. Is that all? And you want me to do all of this and expect me to do it without praying? I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I should do and, with the help of God, I will do! -- Everett Hale

(CURTISS) took up lot eighteen in section three, but went west about 20 years ago (ca 1859). He married Lucia RUSSELL. There were three daughters in this family: Rhoda (Mrs. Calvin Parker), Arvilla (Mrs. L. KNOPP), and Sophronia (Mrs. Chauncy Crane). All three are dead, as are also all of the brothers, except Arthur." Regards, Ken Shute, in MD (kwsroots@aol.com).

Reynolds) To: kwsroots@aol.com Hi Ken, Could you see what you can come up with on a Mary Meyer(s)? Sometimes it has the s on the end other times it doesn't. I have a Mary Meyer buried with Dinah M. Kohlmyer Sickinger and others(in Woodlawn Cemetery), I think(hope)it may have been her mother, but I can't be sure because it doesn't have any dates. The only other thing I have is a 1850 census that has a Mary(22), Mark(28) and Catherine(1) Meyers in Ridgefield Twp. Thanks a lot! Stephanie Reynolds >> Hi Stephanie, As a starting point, I looked at the cemetery inscription information for Mary MEYER, and nearby burials, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk Township, from our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book, and found: Page 594. Section 9-- Along Ave G-- Row 2. 24 Dina KOHLMEYER SICKINGER (no dates). 25 Wilhelmina Rosamond SICKINGER 1900-1975. 26 Casper B. SICKINGER (no dates). 27 John A. KOHLMEYER (no dates). 28 Mary MEYER (no dates). 29 Marjorie Anne KOHLMEYER d/o Emil & Augusta KOHLMEYER d. 1922 age 30d. Our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications, 1992, show: John A.V. KOHLMEYER m. Diana MEYER 22 Jun 1882. Mrs. Dina KOHLMEYER m. Casper SICKINGER 9 Jun 1896. If we accept that Dina is an alternate spelling for Diana (or vice versa), it would seem that your Mary MEYER could be related to this Diana MEYER, later to be known as "Dina KOHLMEYER SICKINGER." Unfortunately, I was unable to verify a birth year for this Mary MEYER. In addition to the above marriages, I found a marriage of a John A. KOLLMEYER in Cuyahoga (County), Ohio from our online IGI link: John A. KOLLMEYER m. Cecilia N. CATON 30 Aug 1853, Cuyahoga, OH. I found birth dates for two of those cited in the cemetery Inscriptions above. This was in our Birth Index, 1867-1908, Huron County, Ohio, by HCC/OGS, 1998. Wilhelmina Rosa SICKINGER b. 10/12/1900. Vol. 1, Page 179. Emil Frederick KOHLMEYER b. 12/12/1886. Viol. 2, Page 74. The births of several MARY MEYER/MEYERS were also noted: Mary MEYER b. 09/25/1873. Vol. 1, Page 90. Mary L. MEYER b. 06/21/1893. Vol. 3, Page 21. Mary A.. MEYERS b. 12/14/1879. Vol. 1, Page 163. Mary E. MEYERS b. 04/27/1877. Vol. 1, page 146. In our Death Index, 1867-1908, Huron County, Ohio, I see: John KOHLMYER d. 03/01/1885. Vol. 1, Page 115. Cath. KOHLMYER d. 03/01/1885. Vol. 1, Page 115. Of interest is this Cath. KOHLMYER who died the same date as John KOHLMYER. If this John KOHLMYER is the same person as the John A.V. KOHLMEYER who married Diana MYER (above), then Diana would have been been free to marry Casper SICKINGER in 1896. Death dates for various Mary MEYERs were: Mary MEYERS d. 11/07/1891. Vol. 1, Page 177. Mary MYERS d. 05/22/1906. Vol. 2, Page 133. Mary MEYERS d. 07/08/1910. Mary E. MEYERS d. 07/24/1918. Well, I think I've muddied these MEYER waters long enough.
