I understand he was given 900 acres in this area in 1809-12 or earlier and where I would go for further details? Nancy Dennis>> Hi Nancy, There is no reference to an ONSTINE surname in our Huron County, Ohio publications, except for a reference to the marriage of Frederick ONSTINE in our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications. Details: Frederick ONSTINE m. Remember SHERMAN 4 Mar 1819. Old book 1, Page 12. Also, in this same Marriage Book; Frederick AUSTIN m. Remember SHERMAN 4 4 Mar 1819. Old book 1, Page 12. (Same bride, marriage date, and book references as for Frederick ONSTINE.) Assuming AUSTIN might be an alternate spelling for ONSTINE, I searched, but could not find, another Frederick AUSTIN, except for the mention of a Fred AUSTIN in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions: Fitchville Cemetery, Fitchville Township. Page 108. Section 2-- Lot 30. 11 Susannah AUSTIN, w/o Fred AUSTIN, d. 18 Feb 1868 age 95y (cem. record, native CT, resident Hartland.) No ONSTINEs appear in the list of original Fire Land "Sufferers" in our History of Huron County, Ohio, by W.W. Williams. If Frederick ONSTINE acquired the 900 acres of land in an area of the Fire Lands other than that part made up of Huron County, you might want to check for this possibility in Erie County, Ashland County (Ruggles Township), and Ottawa County (Danbury), Ohio. There are links to Erie and Ashland Counties from the HCC/OGS home page (www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron). You can also request a copy of the marriage record of Frederick ONSTINE to see if that might give some further clues. Write to: Probate Court, Huron County Courthouse, 2 East Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857. Regards, Ken Shute, in MD (kwsroots@aol.com).

    1. [OHHURON-L] Shaffer/Hamp
    2. Paulette Brewster
    3. Hello to those who are interested in the SHAFFER'S of Fulton county. I am not personally related to either of these families (Shaffer or Hamp), but I have in my possesion a family tree of the SCHOEFFER/SHAEFFER/SHEFFER/SHAFFER family, which is also connected to Jacob HAMP of Ai, Fulton co. (This detailed family tree came to me at the death of my husband's Aunt: Grace Brewster Shaffer. She and her husband, Bruce, had no children to pass it on to.) I'm new at this so I may not be using the typical format to explain. And I don't have this put my family tree software... yet. This is quite long, and I apologize for that... but if you're interested in more dates and names, I have LOTS more. The beginnings of the family are in Rotterdam, Holland, with John Nicholes Schaeffer who married Julianna Margaretta Michel. They came to Pennnslyvania and settled in 1749. They had 12 children: Casper, Margaretta, Elizabeth, Susana, Nicholas, Phelix, Anne, Micahel, William*, Johann, John. William* Schaeffer (born: 1772) married Margaret BICK (Beck). They had 11 children: Barbara, Samuel, Jacob**, John, Margaret, Catherine, Susannah, Daniel, Peter, Mary, Lydia. Jacob** Schaeffer (born: 1817) came to Ohio in 1835 and married Margaret Keller in 1838. They had 7 children: Sarah, William, Samuel, Jacob, George***, Margaret, Anthony Wayne. George Schaeffer was born January 12, 1844 in Richland County. At age 3 he moved with his parents to Fulton county. After serving in the Civil War he married Catherine Hamp(the granddaughter of Jacob Hamp). George and Catherine had 7 children: Berton, Anna, George, Lewis****, Clara, Minnie, Ethel. Lewis SHEFFER, born Aug 11, 1879 married Rose Ann Foley. They had one child: Bruce Harry SHAFFER who married Grace Brewster. Hope this helps someone. Paulette Brewster

    2. Mary McGinnis
    3. I am seeking information on the mother of Olive Jane REA/TIMBS. Mary EMMONDS is listed as being the mother of Olive Jane on the death certificate which was signed by her husband William TIMBS. I do not have much to go on other than a death certificate that lists Mary EMMONDS as being from Scotland. Also, I found EMMONS deaths at: http://www.rbhayes.org/obits/search3.asp (thank you Bobbie). This has two EMMONS dying, one in Milan and the other in Florence. Did not know if this would be a connection to 'my' Mary EMMONS. Here is what I know: Olive Jane REA b. January 9, 1843 d. December 20, 1915 parents: Johnston REA b. December 24, 1790 d. January 3, 1881 Mary EMMONDS First I have Johnston REA marrying an Elizabeth JOHNSTON April 25, 1833 in Elyria (Lorain County). No other information. I have a Lovina on a deed made in 1838, Lorain County, with Johnston REA as husband. I have a Malissa listed with Johnston REA in the 1850 census of Black River (Lorain County). I also have a will of Malissa RAY, Elyria, Ohio, made March 23, 1857; probated June 19, 1857; mentions son Hiram F. RAY. This was presented to the court by Charles H DOOLITTLE, and M. RAY Cousins. This gives her house and lot situated in Amherst Twp., County of Lorain and State of Ohio, and being the whole of lot number 23 in the town plat of Amherstville. Would this be one in the same as to a Mary EMMONDS? Or could this be Johnston REA's elusive sister? I have Johnston REA on an 1852 deed where he says he is of Florence, Erie County with Lovina. I have a Lovina listed with Johnston REA in the 1860 and 1870 census of Florence Twp. (Erie County). I have the death certificate of Lovina that lists her as being from Rochester, PA. I have Johnston REA on two early plat maps - the latest being 1873 in Wakeman, Huron County. Lovina and Johnston are living with their son, Theodore, on the 1880 census in Wakeman, Huron County. I have Lovina buried in Wakeman Cemetery, Huron County. Where is Johnston buried? Thank you for any insight that you might give. Mary McG in Tennessee
