    3. For all of you that don't know what New Year's resolution to make --- Make sure that all "places" that had your old email address has your new address. 1. [OHHURON-L] Plat Map Images
    2. Judy Kelble
    3. Hi All, While Ken Shute may claim to be in semi-retirement, he has certainly not forgotten all of you out there. He has been putting together the complete index to the Huron County 1845 Plat Map. That part of the project is now completed and can be found on our web site (URL is in my signature file below). Go to the Archive link. There you will find a link to the Plat Map page. Please read all of the instructions. Otherwise the "next" step will be difficult. Ken has now started photographing and sending me actual images from that plat map book. This is the "next" step. You will now be able to see the image of the plat map and find the exact location of your ancestor's land. These images are really good quality considering what Ken has to work with in the book. Thank you, Ken and Bev for your continued support of Huron County researchers!!! You need to remember that there are 80 township sections (each township is divided into 4 sections), so that means that Ken has to take 80 pictures, fiddle with them to make them of decent quality and then send them to me. I then put them into a format to be loaded on-line for you to see. This "next" step is going to take some time. We already have one section for Greenwich Township and all four sections for Lyme Township, so we are steaming right along. As is stated on the Plat Map page - there is NO research offered or available on this project. This is for you to find your ancestor and where they owned land only. If you want a copy of the deed, you may go to the main web site and scroll down to the link for Research Done For You. There you will find instructions for having someone here in Huron County get copies from the courthouse. Yes, that means any research you want done in Huron County. Read all of the instructions found on that page. 1. Re: [OHHURON-L] DNA Testing
    2. To Mary and June: Once again scientists have shot themselves in the foot. I have followed reports of mitochondrial DNA work for years with interest and understand the basic premise of their work. The work has been reported in main-stream scientific literature for years and therefore is continually subjected to the review, comment and criticism of those competent to do so. As far as I have read and can remember, the basis of this work is fairly well accepted, with the main differences being in the conclusions to be drawn from it. The mistake made was in dubbing the ancestral female by the name "Eve". June will not be the only person to turn to her Bible for what she considers to be the truth of the matter. She apparently took the figurative "Eve" literally, and immediately was struck by inconsistencies with the Good Book. I'm sure June is like nearly all of the people I've met and corresponded with in my genealogical work, an honest, dedicated and decent person sharing an interest in genealogy with others. I'm sure she would be a great Sunday School teacher and in most things in life, I'd probably be on her side. I cannot be silent however, when well-considered, main-stream and serious science is dismissed because someone thinks it is at odds with the Bible. I'm sure that there will be more interesting conclusions drawn from mitochondrial DNA studies in the future, but they won't help us find Eve. And June, I agree with you on the $180 test. I don't see a whole lot of value in knowing which "tribe" we came from. Maybe for $20. Sorry for being one of those we have to put up with on the lists. I've never done it before hope never to again. And if anyone wants to let me have it, please do it directly and leave it off the list. Regards Jim

    1. Re: [OHHURON-L] DNA Testing
    2. Mary, This was totally unnecessary and has nothing to do with genealogy. However if anyone is stupid enough to send this org $180.00 and be ripped off, be my guest. First and foremost, Eve was not the mother of all races for clearly Adam and Eve were Adamic people which according to the Strong's Concordance means to be of rudy complexion, or to show blood in the face. The black race and the yellow race cannot do this. All through history has been determined by the "SEEDLINE". Not the womb, but the seedline, or the father's line. If my father is white, no matter what my mother is I am of a white man I am white. Mixed, most definitely, but I am of the seed of a white man and the womb of a woman. In other words, a tomato seed only produces tomatoes, rabbits only produce rabbits, pears only produce pears. IT IS THE SEED THAT IS PLANTED THAT DETERMINES THE RACE. Now this is not meant to offend anyone or to be racist. But, it is common sense. So, please people, don't pass on this garbage just because it sounds new to you. This is just a way for some organization to make some bucks off from some dense people. Check everything out before you believe it. This article was sent to me months ago by a friend as it appeared in his newspaper on some back page, so I have read it in it's entirety and it is ridiculous. Mary, do not take offense to what I have posted but please, we don't need anymore orgs that take the money of innocent people. I mean if this were a real scientific team doing research, don't you think they would be paying us to donate our DNA to help to further their cause rather than taking our hard earned money? Warm Regards, June

    3. This was sent through another list that I am on. Thought some of you would be interested. On Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, the Chicago Sun-Times ran an article stating that Oxford University has conducted research using mitochondrial DNA (inherited through female lines only) and concluded that everyone alive today is descended from one of 33 ancient tribes that existed during the Ice Age. They have designated names and areas for these tribes: 13 from Africa, 11 from Western Eurasia, 8 from Eastern Eurasia, and 1 spans Eurasia and the Americas. Most Europeans are descended from 7 ancestors, which Oxford named "The 7 Daughters of Eve." This provides a direct and undiluted link to our maternal ancestors, giving rise to every race and ethnic group on every continent. As we know in genealogy, simply living in a country doesn't necessarily mean you can actually trace your ancestry to that country. If you're interested in reading about this, go to www.oxford ancestors.com for more information. Incidentally, Oxford charges $180 for this DNA test. They send out a free test kit, you take a simple swab from inside your cheek and mail it to them. It takes about a month. You pay when the test is completed. I always knew that science and technology would interact with genealogy someday, it appears that day is here! Mary McG in Tennessee

    3. <LOL> That's the one thing this program does NOT have - a spell checker. Wish it did. It is now correct. Thanks and don't worry about stepping on any toes with bringing things like that to my attention. Sometimes I get going so fast, I don't get slowed down long enough to see those errors. 3. It is down toward the bottom. There is a line of links - one for the courthouse, one for the Libraries and Museums, one for the health departments and the last one says Churches. It is just above the map of Ohio with Huron Counties nearest neighbors listed. I'll also save you the trip. Sand Hill Methodist is not listed. We only have a link to Wakeman UCC so far.
