Hi all, I have added the township map that shows the last date of eligibility for membership in First Families of Huron County. You will notice that all of Erie County to its formation is included, as is Ruggles township which is now part of Ashland County. You can find all this at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron/ffhc.html click on the highlighted word "map" in the membership requirements paragraph. Enjoy. I am looking for Robert Eugene Gill born 12 Sept 1928. His mother was Arzola Irene Green who lived in Willard, Huron Co., Ohio. His brother is Everett Gill. Robert's 2nd wife was Mary (Irvin)Gill. Robert had two daughters, Carolyn and also Melanie/Melody who married a Mr. Murphy and had a son Tommy or Temmy Wayne Murphy born in the 1970's. His cousins and brother have lost track of Robert and need to get in touch with him. I am hoping with all the contacts that geneologists have with other geneologists, maybe you can help me find Robert (Bobbie) Gill. Hello, I am looking for these three families in the Greenwich area. Can you guide me to the list or area by e-mail name I need to find these families? Thank You,Cora Carroll carrolljcb@aol.com
Hi All, We have a page that links you to many different family trees. These are sent in by people doing Huron County research. If you have your family tree on-line and want me to link to it, go to the "Families" page and fill out the form. I get a lot of people sending in queries. This is not the page for queries. That is on a page called, interestingly enough "Queries". We encourage you to list all of your ancestors at this page. I have uploaded several new family tree links. Check them out. The list is growing. Hi All, Just as I was finishing the 19th township plat map upload, I remarked to Ken Shute that we should be done with that project. He then gently reminded me that Ruggles Township had been a part of the county at the time this platmap book was done and should be included. Indeed it should be and now is. If you go to the county website www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron and scroll down to the Archives link you will find the Plat Map listed there. Go and find your ancestor in the index on the plat map page and then you will be able to find the actual plat map image showing where your ancestor owned land. The plat map image links are listed by page number. The Ruggles township was done in script and is extremely difficult to read. Thank you once again for all your hard work, Ken. You continue to bless us with your presence!! If so where can I write to get some of these records? Are they available at the FHC? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks Dee Dittman >> Hi Dee, In checking some of my Huron County, Ohio publications, I find an Elder R.W. Vining as the "first settled pastor" of the Baptist Church in Townsend Twp, beginning in 1837. This Baptist Church apparently no longer exists. There are also some VININGs (but not R.W. VINING) buried in the Townsend Center Cemetery in Townsend Twp.These are the only VININGs listed in the Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions Index. I can't offer you anything on any church records which might have survived until today. You might check the holdings of the Norwalk Public Library. Go to the web page for HCC/OGS (www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron) and click on Libraries and Museums. Perhaps someone on this Mail List may be able to help you also in this regard. Details: 1. History of the Fire Lands, by W. W. Williams, 1879. Page 248, Townsend Township. Under "Religious" and "The Baptist Church." This item mentions that the first settled pastor of the Baptist Church was Elder R.W. VINING, who began his labors in 1837. This Baptist Church was first organized in Penfield, New York, in 1816, with five original members, all of whom relocated to Townsend Twp in 1817. It was originally called "The Peace Baptist Church." After relocation , the earliest meetings were held at the homes of the members. In 1850, a (Baptist) church building was erected at the (Townsend) Center and cost about $500.00. 2. Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions. The following VININGs are buried at the Townsend Center Cemetery, Townsend Twp. This cemetery is located on Angling Road, a short distance southeast of Hartland Center Road at East Townsend. Page 856. Row 10-- North Side of Drive. 2. Just Like Old Times by Henry Timman, published originally in the Norwalk Reflector. Book VI, Page 45-- "How East Townsend got its name," dated Nov. 6, 1987. This article mentions that East Townsend used to be referred to as Townsend Center. The area at U.S. 20 and Hartland Center Rd. was platted in 1848 as "Townsend Center Village." The public square area, where the Town Hall and fire department are located was donated by Kneeland and Caroline Townsend of Milan in 1848. A school building and two churches-- Methodist and Baptist-- were built in the square. Both are gone now, the Baptist Church having been used as an auto repair shop by George Stacey after it had been moved south across U.S. 20. Regards, Ken Shute

I'm looking for information on the Travis family. Son Oscar J. Travis moved from New York to Huron County about 1854. He married Sarah Jane Kniffin on January 1, 1858. His brother Hyatt Travis moved to Huron County in 1860. He married Hattie Temple on Sept 1, 1867. Their parents Jacob Travis & Sarah Hyatt Travis followed them to Ohio in 1862. I would be very interested in knowing what happened to their parents as I can not find them, their death date or burial locations. Thanks, Chris Carpenter, CT
Hello All, >Can anyone tell me what time period it was completed? > >I am familar with the Wabash - Erie canal in east-central Indiana. The Wabash - Erie canal connected into the Miami and Erie Canal which ended in Toledo, Ohio. It was opened in 1845 and for the most part not maintained after 1910. You can see a section in action at Grand Rapids, Ohio during the summer time. There was also a Canal that ran from Lake Erie to Milan, Ohio. The Erie Canal ran from Albany to Buffalo in NY state. I don't know of a canal in Huron Co., OH. Many Irish and other nationalities did a great deal of work on the canals. Ron Garner Former historic interpreter at Isaac Ludwig Mill, Grand Rapids, Ohio

Hi Folks, What follows here is the beginning of a very long email that is making the rounds again. At the end it says - in all caps - that you should forward it to everyone you know. This particular one was sent to me by a person in hopes of stopping the spread of this one before we all have to overuse our delete keys. Thank you Linda. PLEASE folks, when you see these things, do NOT forward to any list that you are on. They start gathering steam and clogging the servers. If you are concerned about something, please DO check it out for yourself. Do NOT rely on what someone else has sent you by email. The key phrase that tells me it is a hoax etc, is the push getting you to "send it to everyone you know". Go to www.norton.com where they have a link to known hoaxes and virus scares. Subject: B# 602P VOTE NO ON Bill 602P!!!! Guess the warnings were true. Federal Bill 602P 5-cents per E-mail sent. It figures! No more free E-mail!
