    2. Thank you Ken Shute for your information. Would you or anyone on the list happen to know about "The Gregory House, and what is known as the Union Block, > on the northeast corner of Rochester and Clarksfield streets, was erected by > C.W. Gregory, A. Porter, A. McClellan and R.C. and A.A. Powers, in the year > 1873." Is this structure still standing? Anyone know the history of the old house located behind the grocery store in New London? Maureen

    3. Hi, Sounds like a good book. How do I order one? Did you pass the mail box on you way to work the other day. I hate to think of my new found cousin as having any bad habits. My grandfather always said Coleman blood and Hickey blood could do no wrong. you might not have Hickey but you got the Coleman. I found out a little more about Emmett if he is Patrick and that is he joined the war out of Maine with his place of residence being Biddeford and his father also a Patrick joined at the same time. I just hoping at some point to connect the P. in Emmett P. to being Patrick. There is a fellow writing a book on 10-14 years old in the Maine Inf. and he thinks because of Emmett headstone and age at time of death that it must be the same person as no other Hickey in Maine Civil War Archives match. So who knows, have written to the Huron County Probate Court for some records may tell us something. Take care let me know about the book and have a good long weekend Gail At 03:34 PM 4/13/01 +0000, you wrote: >Maureen, >This is pretty blatant here, but why don't you buy a copy of the book "The >Columns of William Byron Thom," for $10 plus $3 shipping/handling. 2. Hi Tom, I do believe I have corresponded with you before, if I haven't, I know Marie Linton has. She was the one who posted the diary of Melville Hamilton Porter to the Ashland Co website as well as the Lorain County mailing list. In that diary were members of your family mentioned. I am very much interested in ordering the book, "The Columns of William Byron Thom," Let me know how to go about ordering it. BTW, Melville Hamilton Porter was the nephew of Alexander Porter, the man I am seeking info on. thank you very much for notifying me of the book. waiting to hear from you, Maureen

    3. Maureen, This is pretty blatant here, but why don't you buy a copy of the book "The Columns of William Byron Thom," for $10 plus $3 shipping/handling. He was a local New London historian who published a column in several newspapers in the 1920's and 1930's about the New London and Ruggles area. Among the 350 plus pages is a 3 page article on this Alexander Porter. 2. Ruth Reed
    3. Hi, My family of Lutts/Reeds or Soules/Reeds seemed to be following the railways. So I presumed that the tracks lead them to Branch Co. from Stueben Co. Was I wrong? This family is very confusing. I have a Franklin Reed who Married a Mary Soules in New London, Huron Co. in April 1875. In May 1876 I have a birth being recorded in the Huron County Probate office for a Ora Sylvanis Reed, born 9 July 1875 in Stueben Co Indiana to a Frank and Mary Soules. She then disappears and Frank has 4 more children with a Mary Litts/Lutts/Letts about 2 years apart. OK, I presumed that Mary Soules died and he married a Mary Litts/Lutts/Letts before the birth of sister Effie on 1 May 1877. I have not been able to find a Soules family for Mary. I did find a Litts/Lutts/Letts family for second wife in Stueben Co. Ind. This family then moved to Branch Co Michigan. Ora married in Jan 1901 and gave his mother as Mary Letts. I could never find a death record for Mary Soules Reed. Mary Letts (This spelling used in Census and records most) had parents Daniel and Diane Letts. Daniel lived and died in Huron County in late 1850s when Mary was about 6 years old. Diane continued to live with her in laws and moved to Scott Twp, Stueben Co. Ind. when they moved. She was listed as a pauper in the Census of 1870. Her inlaws were Edward and Caroline Letts. It was Edwards will that lead me to Branch Co. Mi. Mary Letts siblings were Edward, Viola, John and Cornelia. I need a big light to shine in a direction with info on this family. 3. Thank you Claudia, for your response. My query was a long shot. If you know Clarissa BAUER, it is almost a sure thing that she is NOT the one I am looking for. My Clarissa was born about 1805, and married Rufus LOVE in Huron in 1821. They were in Norwalk on the 1840 census, but disappeared after that. Most references to her family use the BOWERS spelling. I am looking for a lookup on M. BOWERS, because Clarissa's mother was named Marvel. So still need that lookup.
