    1. [OHHURON-L] Re: Samuel MAURER
    2. For Tina Hursh Hi Tina, Here are two references that appear to apply to your Samuel MAURER, and from which you might find where he lived: 1. Rutherford B. Hayes Obituary Index (index.rbhayes.org) Samuel Maurer, age 68 Spouse: Elizabeth Suter Died: Bellevue. 11/11/1882. The obit appears in the Bellevue Local News, 11/18/1882, Page 3, Col. 3. (The web site describes how you can order a copy of the obit for a modest fee). 2. 1880 Cemsus Index Samuel Maurer, age 65. born SWI (Switzerland?), retired farmer. Home: Thompson, Seneca County, OH, widower. Others in household: Malichi, 41, laborer Frederick, 27, laborer Gottleib, 24, farmer Barbary, 19, keeping house Mary, 7 Louisa, 1/12. Regards, Ken Shute ([email protected]).

    2. LaVonne Ayres
    3. I am not very familiar with the Naturalization Records, although I recently purchased the chapter's index. I am curious about an entry marked FR1. Is that only for individuals still living at that time? I am curious about an entry with the same name as I am researching, however I believe his tombstone said he died in February 1858. Thank you. 3. My 4th great grandfather, Samuel MAURER, died in Bellevue in 1882. I noticed on the map that Bellevue is right on the line for Sandusky & Huron counties. Which county would I need to search to find records on the family? Thanks, Tina Hursh

    1. [OHHURON-L] RE: Slocum
    2. I would like to identify Mr. Slocum. Matilda Driver, widow of Thomas Pickett, married Mr. Slocum in Erie County - I have not been able to find a first name for the man. I do know he must have died in 1858 or 1859, as Matilda has a one year old child with the name Eliza Slocum on the 1860 census and no husband. Further, they must have married sometime around 1850, but not so as to show up on the census as far as I can tell, but Matilda has a daughter named Mary Slocum, age 10, a son, J (or I) W Slocum, age 7, on the 1860 census. There are no records in Erie County for this man - perhaps someone in Huron County knows about him. Son?: Morris D. Slocum Birth: 10 Feb 1859 Death: 11 Jan 1942 in Joppa, Erie Co, OH Marriage: Addie Mason b: Nov 1865 Thanks for any help. Ann Marr

    2. Eric Eyman
    3. My name is Eric Eyman and I am the newest member of the OHHURON mailing list. I am originally from Erie County but have many ancestors from Huron County, going back to at least the 1830's. My current quest is for information regarding Sumner Messenger, who was my great grand-father. If any one could provide assistance it would be greatly appreciated. What we know so far is listed below. . He was born about 1859, since the 1870 Census for Fairfield Township, Huron County, lists his age as 11. The same census has him living with Elizabeth, who we presume to be his Mother, age 29, and a younger brother age 7. We have no other information about who his parents were The 1880 Census has him, age 20, living with the family of Emery Carpenter. Emery's Father, Leonard is living just 3 houses away. Sumner's brother is living with the family of Samuel Harvey, just 2 houses away. Elizabeth Messenger is no longer to be found. Sumner married Elizabeth Carpenter, the daughter of Leonard Carpenter in October 1880. Their daughter Blanche was born on January 20, 1882. The 1900 Census has the family in Blackriver Township, Lorain County. Family records indicate that Sumner died in 1901. On the Huron County website I found "Huron County, OH Cemetery Inscriptions" published by The Huron County Chapter of OGS, 1997. This lists Sumner, his wife Elizabeth, and his Mother-in-law as listed on page 81. Does anyone have the actual text of that page?
