    2. Elsie Berg
    3. Hi List, My Huron (and Erie Co.) people are Edwin Hollister and wife Caroline Webb, and their son Edwin Hollister and wife Sarah Barto(w) - and their daughter Minnie Viola Hollister. One very nice person gave me information on both Edwins who were both in the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home, in Sandusky. That bit of info solved some puzzling information. They were both Civil War Vets. Thanks to the great volunteers there. Elsie

    2. Can I ask what anyone did to get $250.00 for research? I paid to have research done from a wonderful woman in England and I never paid any where near that much money. when I saw that amount I was floored. Did not know anyone got that much, If that is true I must be in the wrong business. Just curious. Norma/Ohio

    2. Doug: The first thing all of us should remember is not to judge. Especially a situation in which we (A) are not involved and (B) do not know the whole story. I hope you can resolve the situation amicably because it certainly isn't worth continuing your anguish over. The lesson was most likely learned at this point - when dealing with sums of money that are important to you get the funding handled up front. It's like lending money, if you can't afford let it go, then don't lend. All the best to you, and neither of you should worry about how your credibility is viewed by faceless strangers out here in cyberland. You know what they say, "Don't worry about the small stuff . . . it's all small stuff." Now folks, lets get down to the history again.

    3. Hello Connie, Gypsy, Kristi Jalics, Penny, Sue, South Paws, Raymond Tompkins, Andrew Waber, Julie Woolever [and the List Members that e-mailed me privately], Sorry about not getting back to you sooner, but I've been busy with work. With Judy's permission, I would like to respond to the comments and remarks that were made to the question I had posted on this discussion list. I will respond to everyone in this e-mail -- I hope you don't mind. I want to make sure you hear the "whole truth". I never intended for my question to get personal, until Raymond Tompkins and Andrew Waber made it personal. My question was actually two questions in one. Should someone get permission before posting info on-line and should someone pay for information that they agreed to ahead of time. The FRITZ info in question can found on this web page <http://www.geocities.com/wabnoles/fritz.html> Some of Andrew Waber's ancestor's names are misspelled -- per the "report" from the German researcher [that I sent him]. Over the last 25 years of doing genealogy research, I've paid for a lot research done by private researchers and I've [never] asked anyone for money. But, when Andrew Waber [agreed] to help pay for the research costs done on his FRITZ ancestors -- then I expected him to keep his word. I was too trusting! Since I started working on my family history, I've exchanged info with hundreds of people. Plus, I've helped a lot of people get in touch with other people so they could find their ancestor's birthplace. This is from an e-mail that Andrew Waber sent me -- signed "Guess Who" Well gee Doug maybe if you would've given me your address when I asked for it back in December I would've paid some of the money back. But considering four things 1) you didnt reply 2) you told me previously Never mind 3) I never ever agreed to this researcher (you were the one who got stuck w/ him,not me) and 4) no contract was signed I have changed my mind. I would like to respond to some of the things that "Guess Who" said: I sent Andrew my snail mail address back in October [four months ago] so he could send me copies of some information on his FRITZ ancestors. Then Andrew sent my address to Roger, so he could help with the research costs -- Roger sent me money last October. Yes, it's true about what I said to Andrew last December. He was suppose to send me the money back in October and never did. So, I got upset and told him to forget about sending any money. I hope some of you can understand why I got so upset. I had to use most of my rent money [at the time] to pay for the research. This is a paragraph [from the report] that the private researcher sent me: Attached you find a detailed worksheet about my work achieved, the time consumed and other expenses. You will find that it surmounts my original cost estimation. Because of the favorable conditions I met, I decided to do a bit more than we have agreed originally. I leave it to you to pay to indicated amount of 250 $ or to restrict the sum I had estimated: 150 $. I wrote to Andrew Waber that we should send him the $250 -- I thought it was the right thing to do. Andrew wrote back and said I should only send him the $150. I didn't think that was right [what Andrew Waber said] -- another reason why Andrew got me so upset. Andrew Waber and I talked about hiring a private researcher to find proof where his ancestor's were from [if it didn't cost too much] and that he would help with the research costs. I still have [every] e-mail from Andrew Waber that can back up everything I've said in this message -- and the last one. After my [bad] experience with Andrew Waber, I'm never going to help anyone else out -- except the ones I've already agreed to. I'm "really sorry" this became personal on this forum -- I never intended for it to turn out this way. Thanks again for everyone's feedback -- I appreciate it. God bless, Doug Smith P.S. Judy, would you please "unsubscribe" me from this list and let this message get posted on your list -- Thank-you very much.

    2. My thanks to Ken Shute. I have been looking for the right NATHAN KEITH for a long time and with his additional clues it is narrowed down, perhaps as much as it will ever be. In Huron co I have a DELLA JANE LYON who was born to DAVID LYON (1822 to1900) and his wife EUNICE CARPENTER. Eunice was born to Rev. ORSON L CARPENTER and his wife ESTER (ESTHER) KEITH. She was born in 1813 in Coventry, New Hampshire coming out to Ohio with her parents as a child. My only clue to her parents that I have is a list of heads of households in the town papers in 1811. The only KEITH mentioned is a Nathan. Now thanks to Ken Shute I have some other family members who accompanied them and with that I found a matching family in "The KEITH Book" by Larry Keith. I'm still wondering about the ROSETTA KEITH that I've seen mentioned and wonder if there is a conection. Jessie Deith

    3. Hello Mrs. Reilly, To the best of my knowledge and research, thus far, none of my Tompkins family lived in Ohio. Having said that, I cannot be sure what route my Daniel "D" Tompkins took when he came to California from Michigan. He arrived in California about 1852. My relationship with Huron County is through the Epenetus and Cyrenius Starr family and their daughter, Alvria Mercy Starr. Alvira (18 years old), with her brother Matthew (with his wife and child(ren)) and sister Philena (15 years old) came to California around 1860. Daniel and Alvira were married in 1861 in Paskenta, Tehama County, California. Paskenta is a very small place (still is) and the lure of farm land drew people there. I don't know enough about Daniel except to say he was born on 26 Feb 1829 in New York (Father Gideon, Mother Maria), raised in Michigan (I can find no absolute proof this family was there), and died on 16 Nov 1886 in Lorenzo, Santa Cruz Co, California. Birth, Father's name Gideon, Marriage, and Death according to the family Bible. The reference to Michigan was in an Obituary column in the local M. E. Church. And, according to my cousin, there was never a mention of siblings. I don't think this will help you but there is always the possibility. Please let me know. Take care, Ray Tompkins ----- Original Message ----- From: "L. 3. Dear Culprit, you need to recognize a compliment when it was given. Must be indeed a grand site, next to what the observer could do anyway. So just say thank you! When I first started I have posted erroneous info given by a cousin, not to deceive, but in a dumb attempt to find the flaws. It worked. Bad of me,? Hindsite being 20/20 Yes. But I thought at the time I could correct it by deletion, WRONG! The posting has a horrible life of it's own. However, I do get bits and pieces from ticked off outland relatives berating me for accepting anything but perfection "before" I "know the truth". The truth is except for a very few people, the truth is supposition and accepting the fragments. All my relatives would "whoop" to know their lives as, farmers, workers, and a few professionals would be of interest to anyone and delighted at the same time. When I started this I thought I knew my family, who they were, what they were, etc. Finding they were pioneers and Indians, civil war participants (both sides), courtesans and wives, bounders and upstanding men has given me a deep sense of who I am. It also explained the circles in my life. The same people keep showing up a few generations down the line. Recently I got a picture of my gggrandmother and her youngest daughter and son-in-law. The picture of the man was stunning. He could have be a duplicate of my own brother-in-law. More checking found that he is, he was his ggggrandfather. Round and round we go. Researching, pioneers Samuel Post, origin New York, wife Manerva (Minerva) Butler Post, origin, Mass., Allen Post, Rebecca Kanvel Post, Huron Ohio, if any relatives want to correct me, welcome! If you need money, sorry! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrew Waber" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2004 7:50 PM Subject: [OHHURON-L] I am the culprit > > Hello, > > One of you guys asked Doug to name the person he's referring to. It turns out none of my relatives (except Roger Brunn) wanted to contribute. So shortchanged, I told Doug that I would try to contribute 100 of the 150 dollars but it would be a while. He told me never mind I dont need to pay him anything. So... I still felt bad and in December when I had money from the sale of my books, I wanted to start paying into the remaining $75 (Roger paid $25) but he never returned my email in which I asked him for his address. > > There I said my side of the story it was never in my intentions to "rip him off" but it also was never in my intentions to hire a researcher for $150 much less $250. > > > --Andrew > > > ==== OHHURON Mailing List ==== > You want to see what other mail lists are available? Page 224 in Chapter on Greenfield Township. Under heading of "Mills": "Nathan Keith, who moved into Bronson with Judge Southgate and family in 1816, was injured in this mill (Carkhuff's mill) during its erection, which caused his death a short time after."
