Hi all: I am looking for suggestions. My most wanted Cochocton people are the parents of Jane STILLWELL, born 1809 in VA and from another source now WV Jane married Samuel SQUIRE, 29 Mar 1829, Coshocton, OH. Jane died 20 Dec 1865 age 56 yrs, 2 months 14 days according to the obituary. I can not find Samuel and Jane on the 1830 census. Where were they? In 1840 they are in Jackson Township. Samuel's father, Bradley Squire is listed in Washington Township on the 1820 census. Samuel and Jane are NOT listed with Bradley Squire or Samuel's brother Charles or Bradley jr. in 1830. I have checked land records in Coshocton and Muskingum and found no land transfer to Jane and/or her and Samuel from a Stillwell. I have checked out the two Stillwells I know of in the area. Daniel Stillwell in Muskingum. The Ancestral file (LDS) has Jane as his daughter mixing her up with a son John or making them twins or..... I have accounted for all the children of Daniel by will, land records and a historical account of a child who died very early on and was buried in a cemetery which no longer exists-or has been built over in Zanesville. I have checked out Stephen Stillwell of Franklin Township. I investigated whether or not Jane might be a child of an early marriage. Stephen married Mary Thompson in 1811 (Muskingum marriages). A descendant of this couple (Pat Overell) gave me a list of the children of this union and they take up all the spaces in both the 1820 and 1830 census records. Can't squeeze Jane in anywhere. I checked the index of the Court of Common Pleas Coshocton and found a court case between Samuel Squire and Mary (Thompson) Stillwell. But nothing of genealogical interest. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE??? The only other Stillwell I have come up with is Asher Stillwell. Does anyone know anything about him? I found him by searching the Bureau of Land Management files on the internet. He was buying land in Holmes County in the late 1830's early 1840's. Barbara Brea, CA
