    1. Re: Copies of Marriage Information
    2. Richard Given
    3. Hi Derek and Holmes List, There are no "Certificates" for most marriages prior to 1900 in any state. The marriage information is in the form of a county clerks journal entry. It is in the "hand of the clerk" so there are signatures of your ancestors :-(. For the time period you are seeking the typical information is the name of parties, possibly the county each came from, the marriage date and married by whom. No bondsman, no parents and no ages :-(. Who has these.... The Family History Library has microfilm copies. You can order the film through a local Family History Center in Ontario for about $4.00. Then you could make a copy if the journal entry. Also about 95 to 98% of the marriages for the state of Ohio prior to about 1890 are in the LDS data base called IGI (International Genealogical Index). If you are searching for any marriage in Ohio but don't know the county, the IGI is like a state wide index for about 95% of the marriages. So if the marriage is not found it may be in the remaining 5% :-(.... I don't know if the Holmes County Clerk has marriage reciords or not? Maybe someone living in Holmes would know? Good luck, Richard -- Richard Given, Accredited Genealogist and professional researcher.
