What is your source for his wife being a PERSHING? The only one I know of is the Isaac KANAGE bio on pp 959-960 of the 1881 History of Stark County, which says Isaac's mother was Elizabeth, "daughter of John Aultman, who married a Pershing". Unfortunately, the Pershing family of Westmoreland Co, PA is fairly well documented (well, it's not unfortunate for _them_ - you know what I mean :^)) and I couldn't find any Elizabeth who fit that birth date (I don't remember seeing her first name as Ana before though); so if you have an additional source on her and how she fits into the Pershing family, I'd love to hear it... >John ALTMAN's parents were John Wilhelm ALTMAN (1724-1790) and Maria Barbara >STAHL (1735-1800). >The Altman line is established further, but I haven't gone back that far. >I'm still trying to establish the parents of my gr-gr-grandmother Susanna >Altman, who MAY have been a sister to Sarah, but I have no documentation. What info do you have on Susanna, and what is your descent from her? >From Rupp's baptismal records, I don't show a Susanna as a daughter of John & Elizabeth, but do show the following: 6/18/1777, d/o Wilhelm & Barbara (full name Susanna Margaretha) 3/ 6/1784, d/o Caspar & Susanna 12/ 3/1790, d/o Philip & Luissa 6/17/1792, d/o Christoph & Maria Barbara 11/25/1795, d/o David & Susanna 12/14/1796, d/o Georg Peter & Barbara 3/29/1799, d/o Wilhelm & Elisabetha 5/23/1799, d/o Wilhelm & Catharina 8/ 9/1800, d/o Georg & Anna Barbara 8/ 9/1802, d/o Georg & Catharina 5/ 4/1803, d/o Michael & Elisabeth 8/11/1805, d/o Peter & Catharina John and Elizabeth had the following children: 1. Hannah (12/16/1796 - 3/15/1876), m. John Weldy/Welty (? - 1827) m2 John Knisely 12/26/1830 John Knisely may have been the son of the founder of New Philadelphia, PA, but I haven't been able to find any trace of that branch of the family :^( 2. Sarah (3/31/1800 - 3/16/1841) m. George Weldy/Welty (brother of John above?) (11/23/1792 - 12/13/1865) This is Jim Hartline's connection. 3. Elizabeth (11/11/1801 - 8/3/1875) m. Michael Isaac Kanaga Sr. (11/27/1800 - 4/2/1866) They ended up in Stark Co, OH. 4. Isaac Altman (9/1/1802 - 4/21/1878) m. Nancy Wallick (4/13/1799 - 4/25/1851) m2 Elisabeth Holzer 8/15/1854. They ended up in St. Joseph Co, IN after Nancy died and was buried in Holmes Co, OH - I hear that cemetery was plowed up and the stones stacked to one side :^( Isaac & Nancy were my 4g-grandparents. >Rootsweb has an ALTMAN-L list, where I'm sure the people there can give you >more information. CCed to them and a bunch of others :^) Ron Bauerle
