My gr, gr, gr, grandfather's will was filed and probated in Holmes County, Ohio, in 1860. How can I get a copy of the records? Do I write to the county office? Do I need to ask a researcher to copy them for me? Thanks for your advice. Ellen
Ellen, my experience has been that you need to know what year he died and what township. They are usually filed by date. The county employees will not generally search that for you as they will a certain birthdate. You could send money for a copy of the will once you know how long it is. Write to them and ask for them to try and locate the will and then to tell you how much money to send for copies. You might also contact the genealogy society to see if they have someone who visits the county courthouse for such a thing.
