JAMESON ----- TRASTER ----- CUNNINGHAM ----- WOLMAGOT I have been looking for a clue to the names of the parents of my Mary TRASTER for 14 years, and thought that maybe some of you who are familiar with Holmes County records might be able to suggest a source I haven't tried yet. Mary Helen TRASTER was born in Feb 1828, in either OH or PA (census records don't agree). On 1 Apr 1848, she was married in Millersburg, Holmes, OH to John Hook JAMESON of Hookstown, Beaver, PA. I have a copy of the marriage record, but there is no clue there to Mary's family. On the 1850 census, this couple is living in Beaver Co., PA. Several of John H. JAMESON's uncles lived in Millersburg, Holmes, OH, and are listed there in the 1850 census. In the household of his uncle, John JAMESON, is an Elizabeth TRASTER, age 8, b OH. There is a Margaret TRASTER, age 20, b PA, listed in the household of Henry WOLGAMOT, a farmer; and a Sarah TRASTER, age 18, b PA, listed in the household of Andrew CUNNINGHAM, a blacksmith. I know that Margaret is the sister of Mary TRASTER JAMESON, because she is shown in the JAMESON household in Van Buren Co, IA, in the IA state census of (I believe) 1855, as sister-in-law of the head of household. Several of the JAMESON families of Holmes Co. and Beaver Co. went to Iowa in the late 1840's and early 1850's, some remained in Holmes Co. I have found no further reference to Margaret, Sarah or Elizabeth TRASTER. It looks like something might have happened to their parents, and the TRASTER sisters were farmed out to different Holmes County families, but I have found nothing in probate or guardianship records to support this. I thought that John JAMESON's wife might have been the widow of a TRASTER when they married, and that the 8 year old Elizabeth was her daughter, but that is not the case. There are TRASTER families in Coshocton County, OH, but the young TRASTER women in Holmes County don't seem to fit into their families. The Holmes & Coshocton records I have checked are the ones that are available on microfilm through the FHC. I would appreciate any suggestions about other records that might be available.
