    2. I can send you the Harry Stones listed in Ohio in 1880 if you will give me an address. There is one in Coshocton County which is just south of Holmes County. I know some of my family who were born in Coshocton County later show their birthplace as Holmes County. Let me know. Joyce

Stone. Harry was tragically killed in 1910 in Franklin County, Ohio when my father, Sylvester Stone, was only 9 months old. On my father's birth certificate, Harry listed his place of birth as Holmes County and his age at last birthday as 35. This was in 1909 making Harry's birth approx. 1874. I am currently searching each page of the 1880 census records for Holmes County but without a township this is a very difficult task. I know this is asking a lot but if anyone in Holmes County is doing research and has anyway of checking birth records or other sources for that year it would be most appreciated. If anyone has come across the "Stone" name in their research, any leads or suggestions that could assist me in my search would be greatly appreciated. Some individuals have thought his name may have been Stine in Holmes County and perhaps he changed the name to Stone. Only a guess. Larry E. 3. Thank you to everyone who replied to my request for advice. I found out that Holmes County Probate Court has the will and will copy it for $3.00. The Holmes County Library has the probate records on microfilm and a researcher is going to copy it for me. Good luck to each of you in your research. 3. Ellen, I had a similar request at one time. I posted a query on the Holmes CO. board on genforum.genealogy.com and a lady by the name of Phyllis actually volunteered a look up for me and then I wrote to the courthouse for a copy of the will (actually I think I called first to find out how much it would be...something like $1 a page). I did have the date and township - the volunteer provided me with that and also the names of the witnesses. The clerks at the courthouse were also very helpful. Good luck, Judy > My gr, gr, gr, grandfather's will was filed and > probated in Holmes County, > Ohio, in 1860. How can I get a copy of the records? > Do I write to the > county office? 3. Ellen, my experience has been that you need to know what year he died and what township. They are usually filed by date. The county employees will not generally search that for you as they will a certain birthdate. You could send money for a copy of the will once you know how long it is. Write to them and ask for them to try and locate the will and then to tell you how much money to send for copies. You might also contact the genealogy society to see if they have someone who visits the county courthouse for such a thing. Something you might want to try is getting a film from the LDS family history library at the LDS church. I looked and there's a film for marriages from 1825-1865. You might be able to find the marriage record for these two people. Then try a census after that. Here's the film title and number if you'd like to order it. If you don't know how to go about doing this, let me know and I"ll help you. Good luck!
