    3. I believe the Wayne Co Library has this book as well, and they take query requests via email. The few times I've sent them a query, I heard from them within a few days and not the few weeks they warn. http://www.wayne.lib.oh.us/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Cindy To: OHHOLMES-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, January 01, 2002 10:09 AM Subject: [OHHOLMES] Re: book w/cemeteries & tombstone info OR, is there someone from the genealogical society that does request lookups like this; make copies and snails them? 2. William Sullivan
    3. Hello all and Happy New Year! My great grandfather and several siblings were reportedly born in Holmes County Ohio before moving north to St. Clair County Michigan in 1866. If anyone has access to an 1860 Holmes County census I would greatly appreciate a look up to see if they are included. I am new to this list so if this is an improper request, please set me straight. Thanks! 1. Re: [OHHOLMES] MATTOCKS/GWIN/GUIN and SHELTERS
    2. Rick, Where was your Samuel Mattox married? I find your message interesting as I have searched for Joseph Mattocks of Wayne Co./Holmes Co. OH in the past, trying to find where he had moved to. Or what had happened to Joseph Mattocks and his second wife, Sarah Caster. I was trying to find out who his children were since he apparently married twice, both times to sisters of my ancestors. Here are my notes from the past on what I had found on Joseph Mattock/Mattox: There is only one Joseph Mattox in Ohio index for 1820 & 1830. Mary "Polly" Gwin, dau of John Gwin & Mary Ammon, married Joseph Mattock on 4 Dec 1817 in Wayne Co. OH. On 1820 census Hardy twp, Wayne Co. OH Joseph Mattox is listed next to Jacob & John Gwin (family of Mary Gwin). Joseph Mattox has 1m -10 1m 26-45 1f -10 1f 16-26 1f 45+. Mary "Polly" Gwin must have died abt 1824, possibly in childbirth. (Her mother states Polly is deceased in 1844 pension petition). Hardy twp, Wayne Co. became part of Holmes Co. OH in 1825. 18 Oct 1825 Joseph Mattox married Sarah Custer, daughter of Arnold, in Holmes Co. OH. Her brother Benjamin married a Polly Mattock. On the 1830 census Joseph Mattox is listed in Prairie twp next to Arnold, Benjamin, and Thomas Caster and Daniel Hutchison, a Caster-in-law. Joseph Mattox has 2m -5 1m 10-15 1m 30-40 1f -5 2f 5-10 1f 20-30. That was the last I found of Joseph Mattox. Don't know where he went to, do you? Your Samuel would fit in as son of Joseph and Mary, age wise. The name Samuel doesn't run in the Gwin family, but possibly could be a Mattox name. Or maybe they just wanted a different name. Would appreciate family info on your Samuel. Do you know if he had two sisters? I have info on both the Gwin family ( Mary "Polly" 's father , John Gwin & grandfather, Thomas Gwin, both served in the Revolution) and on the Custer family ( Mary "Polly" 's grandfather, Arnold Custer, was also in the Revolution). 3. There is a book in the Millersburg library listing all just about all of the county's cemeteries and tombstone information. It is an original typed manuscript from the 1970's. The Prairie Township Cemetery is on pages 206-214. No Evans are buried there. I don't have any other pages photocopied. 2. Hi June. Sorry for the delayed reply. I haven't been in my computer for awhile. Thanks for the info. People have been very generous and I think I have almost everything I need. Genealogists seem to be consistently the most generous people I run accross. Someone sent me copies of 1860, 1870, 1880 census records that would, I think, complete the proof...but, the records they sent don't show state or township. I'm almost there. Thanks, Peter P.S.
