I know there is a Wayne Co list, but we've seen so many mentions of Wayne co on this list, decided to inquire whether there any subscribers on this list with Wayne Co KIME ancestry? My KIMES line was in Wayne Co in the mid 1830s. I'd love to "chat!" Cindy Kimes P.S. The Wayne Co "cousins" used KIME without the "S"
Thanks, Jennifer. I will contact the Wayne Co library. I will be in Wooster, Ohio in May and plan to do some look-ups then. Again, thanks for responding so quickly. The 1840 census for Paint Twp, Holmes Co, Oh includes two HORINEs: Christian and Albrecht, both living just a couple houses from each other. On the census they are listed thus: Christian Horine, age 40-50 yrs. old one female 40-50 yrs. old one male 15-20 yrs. old one male 10-15 yrs. old NO OTHER FEMALES Albrecht Horein, age 40-50 yrs. old one female 40-50 yrs. old one female 15-20 yrs. old one female 10-15 yrs. old one male 10-15 yrs. old My ancestor was Christian Horine (Jr), b. 09 July 1826; his father was Christian Horine, b. 1790. I'm fairly certain Albrecht's two daughters were Catherine Horine (b. 22 January 1828) and Susanna Horine. Catherine married John Jesse Buckmaster; Susanna married Johann Jacob Brunni. The only OTHER Horine male I've found "in this area" during this time frame was John W. Horine. His descendants list his birth at 1824. Quite possibly he is Christian (Jr)'s brother; just haven't been able to prove it. On a side note, John W. married Mary Margaret Markley in Tuscarawas Co, OH. In 1850, Ludwick Markley and wife, Mary, were living with John and Mary Margaret Horine in Sandy Twp, Tuscarawas Co, OH. Anyone connect to any of these folks? Cindy Kimes

URGENT REQUEST!: Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address. Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is everyone's database. Scott, if you will go to the following web site you might obtain some information on the GAR: http://suvew.org/gar.htm Also, rootsweb.com has a link to some GAR post listings through the state link. Good luck James Clark
I've noticed a number of graves in the Prairie Township Cemetery marked with flags and the letters GAR. The only info that I have been able to find is that GAR is an acronym for Grand Army of the Republic and that it was a Civil War veteran's group. Has anyone heard of a Holmes County chapter of the GAR or have any other information? Scott Watson San Diego, CA
It would be wonderful to see the cemetery records scanned. I am interested in the Longanecker cemetery where many of my Barkeys and Newcomers are buried. John Barkey was a Mennonite minister there in the mid 1800's. His son, George Berkey, (note the change in name spelling) was my great grandfather. We visited the cemetery and church in 1990 but at that time were unaware of many of the ancestor families who were buried there. I am sure that we saw the book you mentioned while visitng the Library--little knowing then about the extended families that were also in the cemetery. WE were graciously invited to visit with a family in their home who told us where we might obtain the book by Lehman on the church's history which gave us excellent information that was well footnoted.
