    3. Folks, When searching in Holmes County just where do they have al the old records? FOR; schools, birth, death, churches, chattels, wills, land deeds, etc. Does anyone know where the Trail Swiss Reformed Church might have been located? Is it still there? Are there any records? Was there a graveyard there? Is there a Holmes County Historical Society, where is it located and what are the hours? Thank you, John D. Ledrich

    2. Pat Jones
    3. Okay. Here I am again with another search. I am searching for the lines of Emanuel A. Hershberger & Cinderella Stutzman. I can go bk in the "Amish and Amish-Mennonite Genealogies" to their past. I am hoping for more current such as my grandpa Venus Hershbergers siblings and any generations from Emanuel and Cinderella to currents. So here's hoping some of you are willing to claim me. ~pat (gethen/entwhistle-entwistle/hershberger) griffiths/jones~ Holmes Co. names: Miller (2 lines)/Stutzman (maybe 2 lines here as well) /Hershberger/Troyer

    1. Searching my Peter J. Miller lines.
    2. Pat Jones
    3. This is terrible I go to the Peter J. Miller reunion and have no clues on his lines. I know there are many in this line just from my time at the reunion. Peter J. Miller b. 23 Sept. 1869 is the son of Johanne Miller and Magdalena Stutzman. He was the my ggrandfather via his daughter Ella Miller my father's mother. So anyone who can give me names & dates to begin my quest on this line will have my eternal gratitude. Okay, Please if family members read this and I misspell names, let's not tell my dad, (Robert Clair Hershberger) at the next reunion okay. <VBG> ~pat (gethen/entwhistle-entwistle/hershberger) griffiths/jones~ Holmes co. names: Miller (2 lines)/ Stutzman/ Hersberger/ Troyer so far

    1. does this baby girl GERBER b/c belong to anyone?
    2. Pat Jones
    3. I requested several b/c records for my John Indian Miller line. I was hoping to get one for Elbert Gerber son of Allen W. Gerber and Sarah Miller. I received one with the correct DOB and last name, but it is not mine. It is for Walnut Creek Twp of Holmes Co. The child is not named, but the parents are W.D. Gerber (age 30) and Elsie Starner (age 26) (I believe the penmanship is difficult to read.) The DOB is 19 Feb. 1913. The residence appears to be Shanesville O R. 1. This was a female. As of now this is no one I am searching for so I would like to give this copy to a Gerber line who is. ~pat (gethen/entwhistle-entwistle/hershberger) griffiths/jones~

My people were Winesburg rather than Trail. But they are close. What names are you looking for? I have some records. Schools? Don't know if they have any old records, unless you mean the teachers? Births you had to go to the courthouse, probate division. Only two people at a time, space is limitied <G> These will be the large original books. Deaths, I'm not sure if they are here or at the library? Churches, estates, maybe deeds are on film at the library. There is a nice new library to visit now. Trail is south east of Winesburg. The church and cemetarty are still there. I don't think the church is still in use, but it wasn't run down 2 yrs ago. I know there are records for the cemetary in the cemetary books. I'm not sure about the church records. I can't remember for sure what they had for Trail. Rev Crantz was good with records and I know he traveled there also. Am not sure where and when for the historical society. Did you check the Holmes Co genweb page? What surnames are you searching there? gin

    2. Hello Barbara, My GGGrandfather, Silas Clark married Elizabeth Winklepleck in the late 1840s in Tuscarawas County and owned the flour mill in Shanesville in 1834. They later moved to Millersburg. Is this the family you were looking for? Keith Clark

    2. Barbara Howard
    3. Hi to Pat and Everyone; I've not been on this list long, but joined when I realized some of my Tuscarawas Co., OH families moved into Holmes Co.. I'm researching George and Rebekah RICHARDSON, early settlers in the Sugarcreek/Shanesville area of Tuscarawas Co.. Families affiliated with the Richardsons include: WALTER, SHOWALTER, MILLER and WINKELPLECK to name a few. I'm very interested in finding out if one of George Sr.'s sons, Allen, might have moved to Holmes Co. by the time of the 1830 census -- there is an Allen Richardson listed in the census index in Salt Creek Twp (p 306). I don't have access to census records (except for those covering Western North Carolina - which is where I live), and I'd greatly appreciate any assistance regarding this entry. I would love to hear from anyone researching these families - and I would be happy to share whatever info I have. One more question: Ann, I just saw your reference to John "Indian" Miller. I've seen John Miller b abt 1724; d abt 1789, Somerset Co., PA referred to this way, and I was wondering if this is who you were talking about? If so, I was curious how the "Indian" came to be? (My Richardson's tie to the Miller family via Zachariah and Gertrude (Hochstetler) Miller's daughter Elizabeth, who married Allen Richardson, son of George (Jr.) and Barbara (Walter) Richardson. Respectfully, Barbara Richardson Howard [email protected]

I lost the snail mail addy. I spent a few days in that area this past wk. I went to Millersburg. I haven't been there since before my teenage yrs. (A long time ago.) It is much busier, but I still felt like I had gone home. I made it to Canton in Stark and past Kidron and Dalton on my way. I have such great memories of visiting the farms as a child. While I feel where I live is truly my home. There is no way to express how one feels when one returns to places of their youth. The family farms are in the hands of others now. But the family is truly the same. Now that my husband is retired I hope to take the camper to the Mohican more often to spend time in that part of the state. Thanks in advance for the address. I will be bringing a copy of my index to the Holmes Co. Genealogy Society next yr.

    3. I have been searching for months for William Dunn Barr b: 1/30/1840 in Holmes Co. Ohio. His death certificate tells me his father was John, born in Maryland. That's all I know about him. Wm Barr was my g grandfather. Wm Barr married Mary Crow of Estill Co., KY on 4/6/1866. They made their way to Marshall Co., IA where a daughter, Cora was born in 1868 and on to Fremont Co. IA where my grandfather, Harvey Colwell was born on Jul 15, 1876. I don't know if there were other children born. I have searched the 1840 and 1850 Holmes Co. census on microfilm twice and havn't found him. Could someone from Holmes Co. help me? I would really appreciate it. I have complete information to present day and would be happy to share. Ruth in Iowa
