    3. I am trying to locate the ancestors of my gg-grandmother Fanny. The last name on a Marriage Return is spelled as SLABAUGH and on another Marriage Return is SHLABAUCH. She was born Apr 1835 in PA. She married a George Strahle (with as many phonetic variations as could imagine on that one!). George was found in Tuscawaras Co., OH in the middle 1800s before he and Fanny moved on to Owen/Sullivan Co. IN. Since the Slabaugh surname has been found in Holmes Co., thought I would inquire here for family information.

    1. How do I Connect?
    2. Peggy & John D. Ledrich
    3. HI Lederach's I'm trying to figure out how do I connect. Where did my Ledrich name come from. I have my Ggrandfathers Bible, it is a German Bible. There is a hand written message in it that spells my surname as LEDERACH/LEDERICH. I can't read old German, but a friend who took German deciphered it and that is what she came up with. I'm Locating my family first in Holmes/ Tuscarawas Counties, Ohio. The boundary lines for the Counties changed back and forth a couple of times. The earliest reference is for Frederick ( Gotfreid ) Ledrich born in Walnut Creek Holmes County, Ohio August 6, 1852, to John and Catherine (Gehring ) Ludrich. Land deeds from 1889 thru 1892 have the spelling as Frederick Lederich. On his wedding papers from the Holmes County Courthouse the name is spelled Mary Mullet to Frederick Letterich. His mother Catherine died near Trail, Ohio August 13,1897 from the Trail Swiss Reformed Church Surname spelled Laderich, with " above the a. In the 1920 Wayne County Ohio census I found My Grandfather Joseph, surname spelled Litrich. I guess my surname was Americanized as LEDRICH. What I can't understand is why do I find this spelling with the majority now living in France, with a few in Florida, and New Jersey. Did someone take the spelling back to France, or did it originate in France and we adopted the spelling? Then I think there must have been a religious split in Holmes County, and Tuscarawas County, because the Amish Sect have a spelling there as Ladrich/Ladrach. Now that I have you as confused as I am can anyone help? I feel like a man with no country. The only other early Ledrich in Holmes County, Ohio was Henry P. Ledrich, with family, found mentioned in Charm, Walnut Creek, Millersburg. Is Henry related to my John, or Frederick? John D. Ledrich

    3. Patricia, Go to Holmes Co. Genexchange. The genexchange has online data that people enter. I just now entered all the Fry's and Painter marriages up to 1850. When you get there, click on Marriages, and then at the query, you can do a search for the last week, and all that I entered will show up. I don't have any Holmes Co. resources except for the Family Tree Disk. You can also go to the Latter Day Saints, Family search and you may find quite a bit. http://www.genexchange.com/oh/holmes/ That link should work for genexchange for Holmes Co. Please feel free to add any data you wish. Vivian

John GOOD b. ca 1774 PA and his wife Elizabeth b. ca 1876 came to Holmes Co. in the late 1920's. They were still there in the 1840's, however, neither appear in the 1850 census. They lived a good deal of this period of time in the Killbuck area. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have a list of all their children, and their marriages proven. Most of them were married in Coshocton Co. If you should see any little notation regarding this family I would much appreciate it. Thank you. J. Good
