    3. I am descended from George Washington BOON(E) 1777-1857 and Nancy Agnes HUTCHISON BOON(E). They lived close to Fredericksburg, but in Salt Creek Township, Holmes County. Their son James (1802-1880) married Tamer TRUESDALE. Their daughter Maria (born 1813) married Hugh TRUESDALE (1812-1883). Tamer and Hugh were the children of James & Elizabeth CLARK TRUESDALE. Maria and Hugh Truesdale were supposedly childless. Maria appears to have still been living when her father died in 1857 but she and Hugh supposedly were childless. I have been corresponding with a descendant of Hugh and his second wife Tamer HANNA (1823-1893). Hugh's will filed in Johnson County, MO includes sons James and David. From the 1870 census, James would have been born in 1854 and David in 1856. I have a death date of July 27, 1858 for Maria. Is there anyone who could help me confirm if James and David are the sons of Maria and if this death date is correct? She is supposed to have died in Millersburg. We cannot find a marriage date or location for Hugh Truesdale and Tamer Hanna. He bought land in Johnson County, MO in 1866. He and Tamer had children born in Illinois and Indiana before that. Their son John William was born in 1860. James & Tamer Boon(e) and their younger children along with the family of Eli Truesdale also left Ohio by 1869. James Boon(e) bought land in Johnson County, MO in 1869. Eli (Tamer & Hugh's youngest brother) is on the 1870 Johnson County census. James & Tamer Boon(e) had a daughter Elizabeth who married Thomas CAMERON back in Ohio and then moved to Colorado. There is an Alex CAMERON, age 32, listed near Eli Truesdale in the 1880 census. There is a John CAMERON age 45 close to Hugh Truesdale. Does anyone know if Thomas, Alex and John Cameron are connected? Also in the 1880 census near Eli Truesdale is Alex HANNA, age 84. Does anyone know he is connected to Tamer Hanna Truesdale? Vickie Boone Pavelko [email protected]

    3. The Intro to the Book "Winesburg, Ohio, Birth Records 1833-1897" publihed by the Holmes County Chapter of OGS in 1993 follows. This was scanned then OCR'd, a quick check did not show errors. But if found they are not my typo's. Bob Strock THE HISTORY OF ZION CHURCH AT WINESBURG Holmes County was settled in the decade between 1820 and 1830, and many German and Swiss immigrants began moving into the eastern portion of the county, inspired by the beauty of the rolling hills, the huge trees, the crystal springs and the rich soil. History credits four young "bachelors", arriving from Philadelphia, PA., with being the first to settle on the site where "Weinsburg" was officially laid out in 1832. On September 3, 1832, a meeting was held for the purpose of discussing a plan for a church. Land was donated by Christian (Schmidt) Smith for a church and cemetery, at the present site. The next meeting was held on September 9th, and a congregation was organized under the name, Evangelical United Zion Congregation, to serve Swiss Reformed and German Lutheran Christians in and about the Winesburg area. Peter Schallioll offered the use of his stone house, located one mile west of town, to hold services until a church building could be erected. These services were held whenever neighboring pastors or circuit riders could be obtained. Rev. William Smith, one of the "four bachelors", preached the first sermon. Other services were sometimes. conducted by Rev. Henry Colloredo, a circuit-riding pastor, who lived between Baltic and New Bedford, and walked the 20 miles to Winesburg every four to six weeks to minister to the new congregation. The cornerstone for the first church building was laid on October 11, 1833, but it was not completed and dedicated until 1841. Rev. Colloredo had been elected to be the church's first pastor, and served until 1836. He was succeeded by the Rev. Daniel Cranz, who pastored the growing congregation for 32 years. The baptism records he and his successors, through Rev. Anton Eiermann, were translated from the German and compiled by Marguerite Dickenson. In 1869, the congretation voted to build a new structure on the site of the old. During construction, services were held in the school. About 4,000 visitors were present for the dedication on Sept. 24th and 25th, 1871. The new building served the congregation well for many years. A major renovation in 1949 expanded the basement to include classrooms, a kitchen and restrooms. In 1955 the sanctuary was renovated, adding stained glass windows. Since that time the steeple has been replaced. In 1934, Zion Church merged with the "Reformed Churches of America", and became the "Evangelical and Reformed" churches. In 1957 the "Congregational Christian" churches were added to become "The United Church of Christ". The current pastor is Rev. Walfred Scofield. 2. Ray Moore
    3. Hello. All four of my great grandparents have Holmes County connections. Azariah C. Moore and Elmina Strong Moore are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg. A. C.'s obit (1907) says Elmina comes from a pioneer family of Strongs. Anybody know anything about them? The other great grandfather (Wm.) Emanuel Bach owned land in Paint Township and died on his farm on Wolf Creek in southeast Richland Twp. Not sure, but I think his first wife was Elizabeth Allemand Bach. She died and he married Marie (Maria) Raufe (Rufi or Roufe). Winesburg Family Histories say Emanuel and Marie married on 4/30/1858 in Winesburg, by the Rev. Daniel Cranz (1791-1876) But another record says minister was Fr. Haunche or Hanche. So it may have been a Catholic Church. Does anyone know of a church I might contact in Winesburg to get more details - especially if a marriage license carried info about their parents? I've written Probate asking for marriage license. Finally, some of their descendants may still be living in Killbuck. Emanuel's daughter, Lide (Louise) married Peter H. Schlegel, a justice of the peace in K. If the phone book there has a Schlegel or Burklew, I'd be most grateful for a phone number. Thanks so much! Ray Moore

The eldest ELY I have is an Erns Frederick ELY who came from what is now Germany and eventually ended up in the Coshocton/Holmes/Tuscarawas county area of Ohio. I have traced some of his descendents into the St. Joseph Co., Michigan area. Thanks for any information or leads. Dereck Dietz [email protected]

    3. I have an ancestor named Jennie (? Jane) McClugage McAlister who had roots in Peters Twp., Washington co., PA. I am trying to find her parents and in doing so have found reference to census records from 1810-1840 in Washington and Allegheny counties (only names shown were for "head of family", and shown as John & George.) In 1850, we see a cluster of this surname showing in Kilbuck, Twp., Holmes co., Ohio. [Andrew, Elenor, John, Thomas] HmmÂ…the families might have migrated from PA to OH. Wondering if anyone is searching this name and has records back to the early PA days that might reveal my Jennie? James MC ALISTER, b. abt. 1810 marries Jane "Jennie" MC CLUGAGE, b. abt.1816. Their known children are: HANNAH ANNE; ISABELLE "BELLE"; J. T.;GEORGE C. Thanks, Happy New Year 2000

A bill to prevent the Social Security number and mothrs's maiden name contained on a marriage certificate from falling into the wrong hands was introduced this week by state Rep. Bryan Williams, R-Akron. The informanton would still be required for marriage certificates but would be removed for public records requests, said Omar Alvi, legislative aide to Williams. The bill would bring Ohio into compliance with a 1990 federal law banning social Security numbers from being given out as part of public records requests. Ohio lawmakers last year make the number optional on driver's licenses. End. The following is from http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/ the legislature of Ohio web page.
