Hi Can anyone tell me if Holmes and Wayne counties were joined at one time and if so when were they parted? Family history has my George Shaffer born in Holmes County in 1833, but we can not find any info on his parents. Just wondering if he might have been born in what is now Wayne County. Ron

Hello All, I am looking for descendants of the following FLINNER immigrants to Holmes Co. Ohio: John FLINNER (1843-1908) married Elisabeth HEIL, settled in Berlin Twp. Conrad FLINNER (1849-1934) married Mary ETLING (dau. of Micheal and Catherine (ALT) ETLING of Paint Twp.), settled in Walnut Creek Twp. Margaret FLINNER (1852-1928) married August SCHMIDT (son of John Michael and Christina Margaret (SCHEUR) SCHMIDT of Paint Twp.), lived near Winesburg, Paint Twp. Frank FLINNER (1855-1883) married Mary E. GARVER (dau. of William C. and Rose Ann (WAY) GARVER, settled in Hardy Twp. The FLINNERs were in the village of Platz (now part of 97779 Geroda), Kreis Bad Kissingen, Unterfranken, Bayern, Germany as of 1723. There was a devastating fire there in 1778 which is most likely the reason for this branch of the family to migrate to the nearby village of Neuengronau (now part of 36391 Sinntal), Kreis Schluectern (now Main-Kinzig Kreis), Hessen, Germany. The constant wars, Prussia's annexation of Hessen in 1866 with the promise of more wars (soon was the Franco-Prussian war and the first so-called unified German state) is the most likely reason for their immigration to America ca. 1866-1869. I would be glad to know (and share) any information on any of the above named families. I have researched the FLINNER ancestry back to about 1700 in Germany. I am also interested in the potential HEINBUCH connection from Germany to Holmes County. Thank You, Larry Flinner, Jr. Holmes Co., Ohio
I am going to the Mohican this wk. I can't get a few of my records through the state so I need to get them in Holmes Co. I know some of the b/c I will have to go to Millersburg for some of my aunts and marriage records. Now for the ones for my grandparents, Sylvanus "Venus" Hershberger and Ella Miller, and others I will need those prior to 1900 where will I find those? In Millersburg? Are they on film? What is in the Nashville place now? Will I pass the OGS chpt on my way through town to Millersburg? I will be getting to the Walnut Creek Cemetery to photograph as many of the graves as I can. I am hoping to find Gerber Valley with the help of one of my Aunts. I am hoping to find a gentleman there by the name of Henry Schrock. I am guessing since I had an uncle Henry Clay Schrock like many others in this region their are numerous of these names floating. Well have to get bk to getting my papers ready to leave. Thanks in advance for any answers. ~pat (entwistle-entwhistle/gethen/hershberger) griffiths/jones~

Looking for any information regarding the August H. Miller family who settled in Millersburg area about the time of 1869-1879. Family history has story of August losing his wife and baby daughter to a house fire in Millersburg. At that time he worked on the railroad, and he later moved to Canton, Ohio, and remarried.
