I copied and pasted this time. I thought it was so cute as I just emailed a new 6th cousins of Mike's about this very subject. Now I know, not only will the kids throw all my papers away, they will also probably delete my files so they can have MORE computer space!!!! Maybe this would be a cute article for the Logan Co. Genealogy paper !!!! Becky Subject: [ADAMS-L] Fw: THE WAY SOME PEOPLE LOOK AT GENEALOGY Reply-To: [email protected] This would be something similar that my family would say or flat out deny knowing anything about anybody. :) Dear Cousin, In response to your letter, I am sorry to inform you that grandpa "Fred" died some time back and the stuff you asked about is not available. The personal property the family did not want was sold at an estate sale. All those boxes of junk did not interest a single buyer. We were able to salvage several binders for the kids homework after we sent all the paper to the incinerator. The kids really complained about having to lug all that paper and pictures of those ugly old folks to the dumpster. An old family Bible from the 1840's did bring $ 5.00. The one from the 1870's did not sell. There also was a bunch of floppy disks that we were able to reformat and download some games for the kids to play on their new playstation. At least SOMEBODY got some good from the three generations work. I saw the fellow at a flea market a couple of weeks ago and he said he threw the Bible in the trash after nobody was interested in it. He said he got an offer for fifty cents for it, but would rather burn it than give it away. He seemed to be having a lot of success with some very nice Elvis paintings at his booth. The two aunts you asked about are also dead. They were such a delight and could talk all day long about the things papa had written about. I remember them saying something about some records that were copied from two courthouses that later burned. Neither ever wrote down a single thing. The letter you referred to was one he typed up and sent to lots of folks who wrote him. He laughed about them never getting any of his hard work as well as his Fathers and Grandfather who was in the Civil War . He guarded all the information carefully to the bitter end. I wish I could remember some of the things to help you, but I was bored to tears listening to them talk about the family members who were in the civil war and those silly pieces of paper he showed so proudly. I vaguely remember they had some beeswax seals and something to do with the land grants that were destroyed in the courthouse fires. I wish I could remember the story about his grandfathers evening with Jefferson Davis when he was on the run. There are also some very juicy stories that were handed down, but I don't remember them very well. Another thing I remember after he got sick was some fellow calling him and he agreed to let him come down and copy all his material. He told him he would call him back when he felt better. Papa mentioned something about letting the society the man was from have all his work since nobody in the family cared anything about a bunch of people who had been dead for 200 years. Papa died the next week. I am so sorry papa and the two generations wasted so much of their life on such worthless hobbies and hope your family will follow something more interesting. We enjoy Bingo and bowling very much here in Pleasantville. I really enjoyed hearing from a long lost cousin and would like to hear back if you find anything important. The kids need the computer for their games and I need to watch the "Millionaire" show. Thank you, Cuz, Tammy Jean. ==== ADAMS Mailing List ==== --------------CC41BA28C58BD5FE9A5F3231 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="lippinco.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Becky Lawrence Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="lippinco.vcf" begin:vcard n:Lawrence;Becky tel;pager:419-221-4568 tel;cell:419-235-7244 tel;fax:419-222-2357 tel;home:419-568-2151 tel;work:419-222-0856 x-mozilla-html:FALSE org:Lippincott Plg., Htg., & A/C Inc. version:2.1 email;internet:[email protected] adr;quoted-printable:;;P.O. Dear Doug: While I don't offer any contact advice, I just wanted to say GOOD FOR YOU. I have an ancestor buried in a pioneer cemetery in Wayne Co. which is almost lost. I think it should be part of the real estate contract that if a cemetery is on your land, you should be required to provide reasonable maintenance or access for maintenance to be performed. I applaud your extensive efforts to see that your loved ones have a resting place that remains in decent condition. On 16 Jan 1838 there was a marriage in Holmes County Ohio between Henry KOONS and Susan MILLER. Soon afterwards they moved to Montgomery Co Ohio, and around a year later to Miami County Ohio. I would like to know the parents, siblings, etc of these two. The first child was born soon after the marriage which may have prompted the quick move to southwest Ohio. Henry was born in Aug 1812 in Maryland, and died in Miami County Ohio on 20 Nov 1901 in the county infirmary. Susan was born circa 1815 in Pennsylvania, and died between the years 1860 and 1870. They are buried without stones in The Freidens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newberry Twp, Miami Co Ohio. I suspect (no proof) that Henry was a son of Leonard KUNTZ and Susan SPIECKER of Tuscarawas County Ohio I also suspect that Susan may have been (no proof) a daughter of Henry MILLER and Elizabeth MIZER The children of Henry and Susan (Miller) Koons were: (1st two born in Montgomery Co, last four in Miami Co Ohio) 1-Sarah..... born 21 Apr 1838, d 17 Oct 1865, mar Michael KATHERMAN 2-Mary C.... born 21 Feb 1840, mar Moses ETTER 3-John,..... born ca1841 4-William... born ca1843, mar Amelia BAYMAN 5-Samuel,... born ca1847, mar Nancy Ann GAUBY 6-Isaac,.... born ca1849 Thank you Joe Bosserman Covington, Miami County Ohio [email protected] >
I expect to be in Millersburg on Monday July 31st. I would like to meet with officer(s) of the Holmes Co. Chapter OGS re memorial contribution for my mother who died March 3rd during open heart surgery. I would like to meet at the Holmes Co. Public Libarary. I am also coming to search for the graves of my GRANT ancestors. Jonathan Grant, his wife Sally and some of their other children ( I hope John and Elizabeth Tremains Grant) are buried in an old cemetery with a name like McCulloch(?) which I believe would be near his homestead in Prarie Twp. Can someone help me get in touch wiwth HCOGS officer(s) as well as identify this cemetery and route from Millersburg? I will be coming in from Wooster that morning and returning to Wooster that night. Thank you for your time and trouble. Margaaret Shank, Arvada, CO
Hello, I want to thank you for the fast responses for the address of the Genealogical Society. It was greatly appreciated God bless Barb
The Holmes County Library has a new home. It is on the south side of Millersburg. In a newer area. Off of 83 south follow the street that goes to the Confort Inn and Rodhe's IGA store around to the library on the left. The Genealogy Society Library is a separate place and needs to be visited after the County library in Millersburg. The Public Library in Millersburg also had a good genealogical collection in the basement, or at least they did in 1997 when I was there. It's been a long time since I sent anything to Holmes Co. I'll try again. William Dunn Barr was born 30 Jan 1840 in Millersburg, Holmes, OH. He died 29 Feb 1924 in Fremont Co., IA. I have searched the OH census and have had no luck. He married Mary Elizabeth Crow on 6 Apr 1866. How they got together I don't know. They were in Marshalltown, Marshall, Iowa on 20 Dec 1868 where a daughter, Cora was born. I cannot find her on census either. >From there they moved to Fremont Co. where my grandfather, Harvey C. Barr was born on 15 Jul 1876 and I have full details from that point on. His death cert states his father was John from Maryland. Thanks for any help!! Ruth in Iowa
I am trying to find any information on Janice Esther Mullet. She was born in Mechanic Township Holmes County Ohio I think in the 1930's. Became an Xray Tech in 1950 and worked as Tech in Columbus. Can not locate after 1954. I don't know if you are allowed these type of requests, so if not I apologize. I live in Columbus and can't travel to Holmes County Thanks for your time and assistance. My other email address is [email protected] Sincerely, Becky
