    1. Re: 1840 Census
    2. Larry
    3. Hello Dixie, I checked the 1840 census microfilm page you requested. I saw no Lewis JENNINGS there. I then checked the 1840 Fed. Census Index. Which showed, I think, 4 Lewis JENNINGS, I failed to write down 2 of these. Here is what I have for the 2 I did copy: 1840 Federal Census Index: JENNINGS, Lewis Page 304, CTY = Cos, Twp. = Pla. The best I can figger is that this means the village of Plainfield in Coshocton County, Ohio. Holmes Co. is on the north border of Coshocton Co. The town of Plainfield is in Linton Twp., which is on the SE corner of Coshocton Co. Linton Twp. is bordered to the south and east by Guernsey Co. JENNINGS, Lewis N. Page 275, CTY = Ash, Twp. = Gen. This is probably Ashland County (I'm not sure). The 1840 Census for Holmes County, Walnut Creek Twp, page 296 supposedly has an entry for a LEWIS JENNINGS. If someone has access to this census, would you let me know what the entry shows? Thanks - Dixie (Jennings) Greenwood

    2. Our local LDS Research Center shows that a LEWIS JENNINGS shows on the 1830 Census, Holmes County, Walnut Creek Twp on page 296. Does anyone have access to this census so they could tell me what entries are made for Lewis? He would have been 30 years old, as was his spouse...either two or three children at that time. Thanks!! 2. Dereck Dietz
    3. I am looking for anybody researching the DIETZ/DEETZ/DEATZ (and other spellings) surname in the Holmes, Coshocton and Tuscarawas county area of Ohio. I recently travelled to a number of cemeteries in the Sugarcreek, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio area and noticed many markers with the name DEETZ on them. I cannot yet place many of these DEETZes even though I am very sure that there is a connection somehow. I would be very interested in hearing from anybody researching the DIETZ/DEETZ surname in the Coshocton, Holmes, Tuscarawas and surrounding counties in Ohio. Maybe we can find a connection. Thanks very much. Dereck L. Dietz [email protected]

    1. Kuntz/Koons and Miller families
    2. Joe Bosserman
    3. I need help with the Holmes/Tuscarawas County Koons-Miller families. I suspect this family was from eastern Holmes or western Tuscarawas On 16 Jan 1838 there was a marriage in Holmes County Ohio between Henry KOONS and Susan MILLER. Soon afterwards they moved to Montgomery Co Ohio, and around a year later to Miami County Ohio. I would like to know the parents, siblings, etc of these two. The first child was born very soon after the marriage which may have prompted the quick move to southwest Ohio. Henry was born in Aug 1812 in Maryland, and died in Miami County Ohio on 20 Nov 1901 in the county infirmary. Susan was born circa 1815 in Pennsylvania, and died between the years 1860 and 1870. They are buried without stones in The Freidens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newberry Twp, Miami Co Ohio. I suspect (no proof) that Henry was a son of Leonard KUNTZ and Susan nee SPIECKER of Tuscarawas County Ohio I also suspect that Susan may have been (no proof) a daughter of Henry MILLER and Elizabeth MIZER The children of Henry and Susan (Miller) Koons were: (1st two born in Montgomery Co Ohio, last four in Miami Co Ohio) 1-Sarah..... born 21 Apr 1838, d 17 Oct 1865, mar Michael KATHERMAN 2-Mary C.... born 21 Feb 1840, mar Moses ETTER 3-John,..... born ca1841 4-William... born ca1843, mar Amelia BAYMAN 5-Samuel,... born ca1847, mar Nancy Ann GAUBY 6-Isaac,.... born ca1849 Thank you Joe Bosserman Covington, Miami County Ohio [email protected] >

    3. Dereck, All of the records you write about are at the Court House. At the Library you should find the Index to Deeds, some Marriage books. The orignal Will Packets may be at the Society Library in Nashville. Lots depend on the time period you are searching.
