Hello, Highland County and Ohio Researchers: There was a large number of Ohio men aboard the Sultana. I wanted to let all of you know that the History Channel will be airing the 1st of 2 Sultana documentaries , tonight. Wenesday, April 29, 1998, at 8:00 P.M. " Sultana, The Mississippi's Titanic" Benton Badgley of Highland County, Ohio was aboard the Sultana on April 27, 1865 when it exploded. Benton was in the Civil war and had been taken prisoner, about November 25,1864. He remained in a rebel prison until the end of the war. He was exchanged on April,1865, at Vicksburg, Mississippi. He and hundreds of other exchanged prisoners were put aboard the Union Steamer , Sultana to be transported home. Sixteen to seventeen hundred people were killed , most of them being exchanged prisoners of war............
