    3. There are TWO cemeteries with the name Fall Creek (this according to the book, Cemetery Inscriptions of Highland County, by Jane & David McBride, 1972 Fall Creek Cemetery (Presbyterian) Liberty Township Remarks: Many people from Scotland are buried here. The Presbyterians organized a church here in 1807. The old Presbyterian Church wuhich stood beside this cemetery was demolished some time after 1954. Burials were made here as early as 1810 and this cemetery is still in use today. It is also known as Morrow and Upper Fall Creek Cemetery. On March 8, 1820, in Original Book O, page 502, Highland County Deed Records, William MORROW, Senr., conveyed 1 acre 3 rood and 34 poles to James YOUNG, William WRIGHT, and John BUNTAIN, Trustees of Fallcreek Associate Reformed Congregation. Hicksite Quaker Cemetery Paint Township Remarks: On April 7, 1819, in Transcribed Book 1, page 535, Highland County Deed Records, by indenture, nathaniel POPE conveyed six acres to Enoch OVERMAN. In the description of the land in this deed is the following call: "...to a whiteoak north westerly corner of a lt of four acres of land laid off and sold for the benefit of Fall Creek school house and graveyard." The conveyance to the four acres cannot be found. Apparently, from the following deed, Nathaniel POPE neglected to make a conveyance of this land he owned at that time. On Sept. 29, 1830, in Transcribed Book 10, page 544, by indenture, Wm., Sam'l, John W. POPE and Thomas W. SANDERS, legal heirs and representatives of Nathaniel POPE, decd., conveyed to "Elias OVERMAN and Wm. NEWBY trustees appointed by Fall Creek Metting of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $12 to him the said Nathaniel POPE in hand paid the said heirs and legal representatives of said Nathaniel POPE, decd., do hereby release and quit claim" to the four acres referred to above. Residents of the vicinity say the old "Lower Fall Creek Church" or "Hicksite Quaker Church," built in 1835, was situated across the road from this cemetery and is now a part of the dwelling house there. Burial Record No. 1, page 4, in the County Auditor's Office, states that Allen TAYLOR, a farmer and a soldier of the War of 1812, died at New Petersburg, Mar. 13, 1886, and was buried here. His monument could not be found. Old newspapers refer to this cemetery as Overman, Fall Creek, Hicksite, Upper Fall Creek, Upper Quaker, and Stringtown. It is still used for burials. There are a few field stones for monuments. Refer to Friends Meeting House Cemetery, this township, for further remarks. regards, Roberta ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 28, 1999 7:27 AM Subject: [OHHIGHLA-L] Fall Creek Cemetary > I looking for any information on the Fall Creek Cemetary. > > Michael Campbell > > > ==== OHHIGHLA Mailing List ==== > Visit the US GenWeb: <http://www.usgenweb.com/> > >
