The list is a compilation from several well accepted books. The authors include: Bonnie Ball, John Camden Hotten, Houston & Hird, Brent Kennedy, and Manuel Miro. I could easily add more from several newer purchases. While my interests center in COLLINS and PAINTER/POINTER in Highland County, the list does not have focus on Highland County. Some time ago, I spoke to the SOGS in Hillsboro regarding Melungeons and especially the Carmel Indians. On The Melungeon Heritage Association website is an article, the basis of a book, by Ball (or Bell) and Kessler. It covers the Carmel Indians of Highland County, Ohio and Magoffin County, Kentucky. In a previous posting, I reported, "I have nothing." That simply means that the above authors had not covered them. It does not mean that those Surnames (including DEES) are not Melungeons. It just means that they were not included by thes authors and probably also means that, if DEES is Melungeon, that DEES may have married into the Melungeons later, perhaps in the 1800s. Why do you believe that DEES is Melungeon? Have you compared your DEES physical characteristics and medical diseases with Melungeons? Phil Beltz
