JOHNSON and Mary, his wife, by indenture, conveyed to Charles HARRIS and Smith JOHNSON of the County of Clinton and John SHOCKLEY of the County of Highland 142 square poles of land situated in Highland County... The name of "J. G. Burna" on the Edward R. JOHNSON monument refers to James G. Birney, who declined the nomination for President in 1839 by the Abolitionists who had organized the Liberal party. In 1843, he accepted their nomination, and in the election of 1844 received sufficient votes to upset the hopes of Henry Clay and resulted in the election of James K.
