Surnames: Beekman, Justice, Miller Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2YB.2ACI/2058 Message Board Post: I am trying to find the parents of my 2g grandfather Gilbert BEEKMAN who lived in Highland or Pike Co, OH, 1869 to 1961. He married his cousin Ida BEEKMAN (b. 1859, d/o Stephen BEEKMAN and Melinda JESTES or JUSTICE) and their children included my g grandmother Lula BEEKMAN who was born in Pike Co, OH in 1894. Gilbert is buried at East Cemetery in Mifflin Twp, Pike Co, OH. I’m especially interested in his mother, because Lula always said she had a Cherokee grandmother and it must be on Gilbert’s side. Possible connection to “Carmel Indians” or Melungeons in Carmel, Brushcreek Twp, Highland Co, OH. Any help in tracking down his roots would be appreciated. I’m afraid I have very little information about this family to share, but will share what I have. Thanks!

I do not have much information. Also, Did I ever tell you that I found some information about Rachel Jenkins. I was able to get onto a web-site a few months back, but it is not letting me on now, about Rachel Jenkins parents: Jacob Jenkins and Elizabeth Rogers. Rachel was not found on the web-site. Her family was Quakers from Frederick County, Virginia. After Rachel was married the Quaker community disowed her from being married by a "hireling teacher". And that is when I decided to look at Frederick County, Viriginia information at the library. Then I ran across the will abstract for a George Manker. It reads: "Abstracts of Wills, Inventories, and Adminstrations Accounts of Frederick County, Virginia." Compiled by J. Estelle Stewart King (521 West First Street; Scottsdale, AZ) 1961 MANKER, GEORGE Will, 11 December, 1786. 6 February, 1787 Wife: Mary named extrx Sons: George, Gece (?), Jacob Grandsons: David Henning, James Henning (This will is very faded) So, I have been looking heavily at Frederick County, Virginia. Looking forward to your information. Thanks, so much Tina

    3. Hi all- I am really interested in the will from 1821 in which Andrew Charles says that George Charles is not his son. Does that mean that he is really not his son, or that he is just being disowned from his father?! I would love to know if that will names the 5 children of Andrew and Elizabeth. Meanwhile here is some more CHARLES info to throw into the mix. Have to be careful, these CHARLES folks used a lot of the same names repeatedly. Hope it helps - Elaine there is one Andrew Charles on the 1820 census: 2 males under 10 1 male 26-45 1 female 16-26 Also there is a document in 1827 where custody of the minor children of Andrew Charles Jr. were given to Elizabeth Charles and Andrew Hatter. The 2 minor children were named James and Andrew. (There is an Andrew Charles on the 1810 census for Highland County OHIO, but I don't have the breakdown of that family yet. If anyone has it, please share! CHARLES, Jr. - Sarah Sally DEMPSEY died Nov. 2, 1852 in OH - George Sr. then marries Ann CHARLES on Aug. 5, 1853, again in Highland Co., OH - she dies abt 1858 - George Sr. then marries Nancy BARROW on Dec. 17, 1859, still in Highland Co., OH - it appears that George CHARLES Sr dies in 1861 George D. I have quite a bit on Jacob Manker but would be interested in seeing if you have anything I missed. I don't have his actual DOB (only the year 1766, near Baltimore); also, need date when he married Mary Lane. I have 6 children for him, with dates and their wives. I descend from his son Jacob, Jr. I had not found the "notice in WV" about a letter being held for Jacob. Can you give me the location, date or any other info on that? Thanks for your help. > ______________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: <djmanker@mindspring.com> To: <OHHIGHLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 13, 2001 10:16 PM Subject: [OHHIGHLA-L] Re: Manker, Ohio > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2YB.2ACI/109.1766.1771.1.1.1.1.1 > > I am sorry that I don't have any additional information on Jacob. We were not aware of his wife's name. My husband received the information we have in 1963 from Raymond G. Manker, 4027 E. Lincoln Drive, Phoenix, AZ. I put his information together for the DAR Genealogical Library in Washington, DC. I am the Georgia DAR State Chairman- Genealogical Records Committee, and prepared the papers according to DAR instructions for library use.
