I am searching for the parents of Charles WILLIAMS, b. Jan 1836, OH; d. 1 Nov 1918, prob. Lancaster Co., NE. He married, 28 Sep 1881, HIGHLAND CO., OH, to Margaret J. NEWMAN, b. 13 Jan 1847, Franklin, Adams Co., OH; d. 23 Jun 1891, prob. Lancaster Co., NE. She was the daugher of Isaac B. NEWMAN and Elizabeth SMALLEY. Both Charles and Margaret are buried at Cedar Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, in the Waverly/Greenwood area, Lancaster Co., NE. Their children--all born in NE--were: Jerry F. Williams, b. 28 Sep 1882; Charles Alton, b. 25 Aug 1884; and Craton, b. 18 Feb 1886. There were several WILLIAMS/NEWMAN marriages, but I can't pin down Charles' family. I didn't find Charles in the 1850 census in Highland Co. or Adams Co. If you have info on this family, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much. Marilyn Williams Montrose, CO

Elizabeth 53 was living with Rebecca Denny and Robert Milner in 1880 in Penn,Highland co,OH. There are a lot of Milners and I think they were related to the Leavertons.I believe that Elizabeth never married as she was orphaned and raised by the Leavertons. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Excerpts from "A History of the Early Settlement of Highland County, Ohio" by Daniel Scott Esq. "Hardins Creek was a favorite range for bears about 1801-2." "Many of the Indians became quite social, and as they acquired a little English, or the settlers learned some words of their language, grew quite communicative." "During the fall of 1800 the first wheat known to have been sowed in the present county of Highland was sowed by Nathaniel Pope on a few acres of ground where the brick schoolhouse now stands in the town of Leesburg." ""Edward Wright came to the falls of Paint from Tennessee in 1801, where he took the fever and died. Shortly after his widow, Hannah Wright and her two sons, William and Dillon, moved up to Hardins Creek." "Hardins Creek derives its name from Col. Hardin, of Virginia. Hardin, Hogue, Redick and some others surveyed jointly a very large tract of land extending over a large scope of country about the mouth of Hardins Creek, containing some fifteen or twenty thousand acres." "There were numerous accessions to the Clear and Fall Creek settlements during the summer and fall of 1806. William Wright- Quaker Billy, as he was called- came from Tennessee and settled in the neighborhood of Beverly Milner, a most esteemed citizen." There is also an amusing little story about one Job Wright (described as "an odd sort of slack twisted genius from the bluffs southwest of Chillicothe" who in 1799 built a cabin "the first house of any description in Greenfield", and plied his trade as a hair sieve maker in the area. He apparently only stayed a couple of years as the town grew too full of people for his taste. If you are interested in the entire story please let me know and I will scan the pages for you offlist.
