So, I guess our husbands are cousins. --Debbie

Cowman who served in the Civil War and lived in Beloit, KS, is my husband's ggg-grandfather. I have since received his pension application. James had a younger brother, Samuel. Would this be the Samuel who is your husband's g-grandfather? I have a fair amount of information on the Cowmans now, unlike 4 years ago, but I don't have much on their life in Kansas. What sort of things are available at the museum there? --Debbie Cowman dlcowman@juno.com

I have information about Tobiatha Fittro who married George Alexander Holmes who is my father's grandmother and grandfather (from his mother's side of the family). I have a lot of information, but am not sure about pictures. I will go through my stuff and see if I can find a picture of Lenore Fittro. As you can tell, there are many variations of spelling with the Fittro/Fettro/Fettrow name...that is what stumped me for a while. I looked for just the one spelling. I would like to send you the GED file that I have, write to me and I will. My e-mail is phahn@cinci.rr.com Hope this helps a bit. PK

Think he was a brother to William Oscar Cowman who died July 31, 1885 in Beloit. Also Samuel D.and Abigail Cowman, my husband's g grandparents, and their family lived at Beloit about the same time. We have a granddaughter & family who recently moved to Beloit--so would love to do some Cowman family research at their historical museum.
Is anyone on this site researching the Henry family that once resided in this county? I am looking for the family of the following: George Henry (b. 1808) m. to a Nancy (?) Children: Enoch (1842) James (1843) Madison (1844) Julia (1845) George (1846) William H. (1849) James I (1849) Martha (1851) Amanda (1852) I know George had brother's that lived in Highland Co. in the early 1800's. Their parents were from Virginia. Two of the brothers eventually moved to Madison (Hugh) and Pickaway Counties (George). Hugh also lived for a time in Ross Co. before moving to Highland and eventually to Madison Co. Any information anyone may have would certainly be appreciated. Thanks.

hi all, i've been off this list for a short time (switching over from @home to @mchsi) so i may have missed this, but i'll ask anyway..... does anyone have a death certificate or any other information on the children of Geroge W. Charles (b-12/12/1780 - d-11/22/1861). he was married 3 times: 1- Sarah "Sally" Dempsey, 2- Ann Holden Charles (widow of James Charles), and 3- Nancy Barrow. i know of 1 son, George D. Charles (b-abt 1829), and strongly suspect 2 other children: Sarah (b-abt. 1834) and Nelson (b-abt. 1812). also, does anyone know who the parents were for: Andrew, who married Mahala Pence on Oct 3, 1868 Andrew, who married Sarah C. Fawley on Sep. 15, 1878 N. W. (who is this), who married Sarah Elizabeth Donohoo on 3/25/1875 W.A., who married Lydia ?, both buried at Mt. Zion Cem. in New Market **Margaret, who married Moses Carothers on Jun 8,1848 (**= i am very interested in Margaret and Moses Carothers because one of their children, George, ended up in the household of George and Nancy Barrows Charles in the 1860 census. was Margaret one of George's daughters/sisters/neices???) i know this is asking a lot and maybe i'm not going about this the right way, but i would greatly appreciate any help sorting this family out. thank you in advance :o) paula charles burlington, iowa "Homeschooling is a great way for parents to fill in the gaps in their own education." ~~from another homeschool mommy and dear online friend~~

I found your posting at the Highland county site, and have a couple of Badgleys for whom I'm looking, also quite a few Browns. I posted a query just last night (well, early this morning) on the Badgley board at Ancestry.com, but will repeat the info for you here. A couple of Badgleys and quite a few Browns married into my Edgington line in southern Ohio. My mother's maternal grandmother was our Edgington link. One I'm looking for is Elizabeth Badgley (1829-1917) who married Eli Davidson Edgington. Eli's father was Jesse (1805-1875). I have no mother's name. I show one sibling, a brother, Sampson, born 1832 (he married Keziah McKinley, another recurring surname in the region). Not much to go on, I know. I searched your homepage for Edgington but didn't get a hit. However, I DID find the Jane Badgley who wed Alexander Edie (he's s/o Honor Margaret Edgington!)! Thanks! Do you have the ancestry for Alexander? Would you like? There are quite a few Overstakes who married with the Edgingtons, but not William J. Sorry! I have access to an Overstake publication, but do not find him in there, either. I have not done any digging for the Browns yet. If you'd like to see details, let me know and I'll send an outline with their connections. There are some Browns who wed Tumblesons and Gutridges, other branches from the extended Edgington tree. Also, I have a Virginia M. Brown married Robert D. Shipley. My Shipleys came from Mason Co, KY into Adams Co Ohio, and I noticed you mentioned Mason Co at your site. I show Robert born after 1938, and the couple as having two sons. Robert's parents were Robert Wayne Shipley (1917-1977) and Mildred Loueva Roush (1919-1973). If this Virginia is yours and you'd like more Shipley info, I'm happy to share. Thanks, Sherry, for any help you can give. I appreciate! If I can provide any info to you, let me know.
Further response to cabwms@hot.rr.com and to SHERRY about early Highland County families. I'm researching the SURBER family who were in Highland County at the same time (early part of the 1800's) Surbers married into both the Badgley and Overstake families. here were several Badgley women who married Surbers, and also Badgley men who married Surber women. FYI -- those who married descendants of Jacob Surber (b. 1744) and his wife Catherine HALLER (Coffield) often passed along to future generations a gene for hearing impairment of various degrees. There were both Badgley and Surber children who attended state schools for the deaf during the 1800's. Their descendants are still well represented in the deaf community. SHERRY, we have corresponded previously about the Badgley-Surber connections in Ohio, mainly from connecting through the SURBER Rootsweb mailing list. I just had a quick look in the archives of the SURBER list and find that Sherry wrote as quoted below in 1999. I'm taking the liberty of quoting below from one of your earlier messages to that list. Don't know if you have later information or not, Sherry. If so, please let us know. I seem to recall another Overstake-Surber marriage but can't find it right now.
