I'm searching for genealogical information about Norman Vincent PEALE (b. 1898, Bowersville, OH). I have a family story that my 2nd Great-Grandfather, Grandville Preston Peale (his father-James Alex Peale), was related to him. Norman and his family lived in Bellefontaine, Bowersville, Cincinnati, and Greenville. His parents were Charles Clifford Peale and Anna (DeLaney) Peale. His wife was Loretta Ruth (Stafford) Peale. Also through my research, I have discovered that some of his ancestors may have been buried in Morrow Cemetery (Bobbitt Cemetery) in Lynchburg, Highland County, Ohio. I am not a Badgley but am also a descendant of Jacob Surber b. 1744 and his wife, Catherine Haller Coffield. I just received a copy of Amelia Gilbreath's new book "Shenandoah I Love Your Daughter," which includes quite a lot of information about Jacob Surber and Catherine Haller's descendants and ancestors and related families. On page 168 of this book, in listing the children of Petter Haller (b. 1715 in Mattstall, Alsace), Amelia refers to Eve Haller b. ca 1769, married John Shoemaker on 18 October 1792. Amelia notes that Eve was baptized at the Zion Reformed Church in 1789 at the age of 20 years and m. John Shoemaker on 18 Oct 1792 (Bond) On page 181 (and other pages) of the same book, she refers to "John Shoemaker and Eve his wife of County of Shenandoah" and also mentions a George Shoemaker. This was in connection with a deed and sale of land in August of 1810. The deed also names as witness or participant, Jacob Rinker, George Rinker & wife Magdalene, and George Moyer. The typewritten copy of the deed in the book shows that Eve (X) Shoemaker signed in German. Guess she could write in German but they made her sign an X anyway. Also on page 181, Amelia has a notation: "EVE HALLER b. 1769, Married John Shoemaker on 18 Oct. 1792 (Bond). No information on this family. " Her index of names does not include Pointer. I just got the book yesterday and am finding lots of good stuff in it -- and some I want to think about -- but if you haven't researched this couple thought you might be interested. Jeanne Surber

John Henry arrived at Greenfield from Delaware Co. in about 1845. He was a farmer, pump-maker, and tannery owner. I believe his son, Grover, founded the Sellers Monument Company at the Greenfield cemetery. What sources should I be sure to visit in my genealogical research? I'm new to this list and I'm searching for information on my great, great grandfather, William C. SERGEANT, b. 1820 at Winchester, Frederick Co. VA and then with his parents and family Amos and Henrietta Clark Sargent, moved to Highland Co. OH. William married Emily CREED in 1843 and they had a family of 9 children, most of them born in Highland Co. William was a trustee of the Methodist Church in the Hillsboro area and then around 1865 moved to Illinois and eventually to Iowa. William White died in Highland Co in July 1981. His brother Lawrence died in Highland Co in Jun 1985. Does anyone know this family? I would like their children names. Are any living in Highland now? Daniel MORRIS was born 17 June 1799 in (..?..). On 3 Feb 1823, he and Judith Ann HIPPLE were married in Highland Co, OH. Their four children -- Richard, Mary Ann, Phillip, and Sarah Jane were all born in Highland Co. Around 1840, the family moved to Fulton Co., IL, where Judith Ann died in 1841, and Daniel in 1843. I am particularly interested in learning about the ancestry of Daniel MORRIS -- who were his parents, where he was born, and did he have any siblings? Previous family historians, and the records at LDS, have not resolved the ancestry or family of origin of Daniel... why? I am trying to locate the source of the following quotation about the Wickersham family. It is supposed to be in a book called THE COUNTY OF HIGHLAND by J. W.Klise but may be in something else. Here is the quote: "His youngest son, Joel C., (Wickersham) a partner with him in the woolen factory, was born in Pike County, Ohio, June 15, 1850. He served an apprenticeship in the woolen factory when young, and he has since been in charge of such industries superintending. In 1874, he came with his father to Westboro, and became a member of the firm. For two years, he has been associated with J. M. Boyd & Son, of Hillsboro, in buying and shipping wheat." This is just an excerpt, probably from a larger description of the Wickersham family. Joel's father was James H. Wickersham, an earlier settler of Greenfield, Madison Twp. I would be most grateful for any help anyone can give me on this. I have checked the Salt Lake Genealogical Library and all sources here in Washington State where I live.
