    3. Good afternoon! Can anyone out there help? I am looking for informations on a SOLOMON CHANNEL who on the 1850 Highland Co, Ohio Census was married to MAHALA. He nor she was on the 1860 Higland Census but she was on the 1860 VanBuren County, Iowa Census with JOSEPH CHANNEL whom I believe, at present, to be a brother to Solomon. I've checked OHGenWeb and a few other areas on the net but Highland Co seems to be a difficult one to find information on. So far I can't find much at all. Anything would be very much appreciated. Thank-you. Joyce Other addys: [email protected] [email protected] God sends us angels...we call them friends. You are one of mine.

    1. [OHHIGHLA-L] ISAAC N. BOYD, also VEST, & WAGSTAFF
    2. The career of Isaac N. Boyd, Cashier of the Bank of Colchester, is characterized by rare devotion to high purposes, and more especially to those civic enterprises which tend to the enlightenment of a community of which he is a product and development. In his makeup are the best qualities of an Irish-Scotch ancestry. His great-grandfather, born in Ireland in 1731, blazed a new path for subsequent bearers of the name by immigrating to America before the Revolutionary War, and his son, WILLIAM BOYD SR, the next in line of succession, took up his abode in Northampton County, PA., where the second WILLIAM BOYD JR, father of Isaac N., was born, leaving there at the age of eight years and emigrating to Highland County, Ohio, where he lived until coming to Illinois. In 1853, William Jr., married MARTHA C. VEST, a native of Tennessee and granddaughter of a Scottish voyageur who early claimed the protection of the Stars and Stripes. In 1839 William Boyd came to Illinois and eventually located in Colchester, where his son, Isaac N., was born October 24 1860. In his youth, Isaac N. Boyd felt the pressure of necessity, and recognized the utter impossibility of rising from his narrow groove save through his unaided efforts. He was of studious habits, and, appreciating the value of mental training as a general business asset, succeeded in gaining an education in the Colchester public schools, finishing at the Branch Normal School of Macomb. During the following four years his knowledge was turned to good account as a teacher in McDonough and Hancock Counties, Ill., and he then turned his attention to learning the barber's trade, which he followed for about twenty years. He invested his humble and useful calling with thoroughness and honesty, and while establishing a credit which was to be of immense benefit to him later on, aspired to a yet broader life and took an important part in general town affairs. Stanchly (sic) on the side of the Democracy, Mr. Boyd has supported this political platform for the past quarter of a century, or since casting his first presidential vote. He was an Alderman of Colchester several years, Police Magistrate four years, and was defeated for Supervisor in 1902. He was elected Mayor of Colchester in April, 1905, and is now filling this office in a town having a Republican majority of one hundred and twenty. Ever since its organization in 1895, he has been a member of the Board of Education of Colchester, has been Secretary of the Board for the past ten years, and in the history of that organization has never missed a meeting. Mr. Boyd is a believer in social diversions, and is emphatic in his support of fraternal organizations, being a member of the Colchester Lodge No. 469, A. F. & A. M.; the Colchester Chapter No. 121; the Eastern Star, of which his wife is also a member; Good Will Lodge No. 91, K. of P., of which he is Deputy Grand Chancellor; and the Court of Honor. In 1902, Mr. Boyd stepped into his present position as Cashier of the Bank of Colchester. He represents a number of reliable insurance companies, and is Secretary of the Colchester Building and Loan Association. There are few enterprises of importance in the town to which he has not lent material or moral support, and his business sagacity and forethought are regarded as a valuable municipal possession. He is a member and Trustee of the Universalist Church, and a teacher in the Sunday school. The wife of Mr. Boyd, whose maiden name was MARY WAGSTAFF, is a native of the vicinity of St. Louis. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd are the parents of four children: CHARLES WAYNE, BONNIE B., NELLIE AND TONA. As one of the foremost men of the community, Mr. Boyd has led an active and well directed life, has drawn around him friends who admire his character and depend upon his judgment, and has laid the foundation for many years of future prominence and usefulness.

    3. Thomas Henry Beveridge was a 1st Lt.. in the 89th Ohio out of Highland Co., OHIO. Records indicate that he muster in 26 Aug 1862 at Hillsboro, OHIO and that he resigned his position 18 Oct 1862 while at Pt. Pleasant, OHIO. The resignation would have been shortly after the birth of his son, Albert Jeremiah Beveridge by his second wife, Frances Parkinson Doyle Beveridge. A.J. Beveridge went on to become a United States Senator from the state of Indiana and was at one time considered as a Vice-presidential candidate. He broke from the party with Teddy Roosevelt to form the Bull Moose Party and was never fully involved in the party after. Any information on this family while in Highland Co., Ohio would be appreciated. Looking especially for information on the Civil War aspect. Have the records but would like more. ken parker

In the late 1850's (possibly 1857 or 1859) Elizabeth Lamb Beveridge died. We do not know when or why and we are not sure where she is buried. It is clearly thought that this was a religious family and that they are believed to have been Methodists. She is said to have been from Zanesville, Ohio when she married Thomas Henry Beveridge in Putnam Co., Ohio the home of a brother of Thomas Henry Beveridge. There wedding date was 26 Oct 1837. 3. I am subscribed to this list in a search for TROUT family names in Ohio and have seen the requests for Vanorsdal (or similar) names. Don't know if these are of any interest, but there are several Van Osdel names in Williams' "History of Clermont & Brown Counties Ohio, Vol I", to wit: > p 675:---Mary Van Osdel (sister of Olive Van Osdel born near Bethel in > 1854) is Mrs. J. C. Trout, of Brown county, Ohio. Another person also researching the Trout families wrote to say: ......the census CDs I have do not include Ohio AT ALL after 1850. However, there are 20 Vanosdoll/Van Osdel marriages in Clermont County between 1806 and 1850 so they are an old and prominent family.... 3. Karen, There is no Ninemire (or similar spellings) in either of the following books: "Death Records of Highland County, Ohio (1867-1908)" by Genevieve Breakfield, 1993. "Cemetery Inscriptions of Highland County, Ohio" by David N. McBride & Jane N. McBride, 1954, reprinted 1990. In the book "Marriage Records of Highland County, Ohio (1805-1880)" by David N. McBride & Jane N. McBride, 1962, reprinted 1982, the only Ninemire marriage record is the one that you described. I did, however, find the following interesting entries in the book "Highland County Births, Volume 1 (1867-1878)" by Genevieve Breakfield, 1992, on page 66 and quoting from Highland County birth books Volume 1, page 82: "Ninnemeyer, John W. b. 9-23-1869 in Paint Twp. to William Ninnemeyer & Martha Ninnemeyer" Then, on page 67 (Birth Book 1, page 140): Ninemyer, Elizabeth b. 9-13-1871 in Paint Twp. to William Ninemyer & Martha Giffen" Those are the only Ninemire births in this book but, if this is the same William then it would tend to confirm your time frame for the death of William's 1st wife. Looks like he may have left Highland County in the 70s. Norman Runyon DOTY_CARSTENSEN wrote: > Hi Pat, > Thanks for the VA/WV 'lead' on Vanorsdal. Maybe we can help each other. WILLIAM NINEMIRE is my G.G. Grandfather. The records I've found and copied show that he married RUTH ANN VAN DILLON (spelling on the certificate) in Highland Co, OH on 19 October 1854. My G.Grandmother, ANNIE BELLE NINEMIRE was born 29 December 1865 in Ohio. Then , I found and copied, this marriage license: William Ninemire (widower) married Martha Giffin on 10 December 1868 in Highland Co, OH. So, I'm very interested in the Van Dillon's and the Giffin's!!!!!!!!!!!! Annie Belle Ninemire Henderson's death certificate lists her mother as Martha Giffin, which is understandable as she was about 3 years old when her Dad married Martha Giffin and she probably never thought of her as a stepmother. Also, her husband may have forgotten that Granny Ninemire wasn't her mother when his wife Annie passed away. Do you think that Martha Giffin and Maggie Giffin were sister's? Although, I guess, I'm a blood descendent of Van Dillon's not the Giffin's as I originally thought. Do you have more information on the Van Dillon's? I guess, if I read your message correctly, Luke Van Dillon would be my G-G-G Grandfather. How exciting. Are we related? Or, are we in-laws and I'm related to your husband? If Martha and Maggie are sister's I do have some information on Martha. She ended up in Colton, CA and I have a picture of her somewhere standing on her front porch. 2. I am looking for the parents of John Underwood born in 1805 in the area of what is now Brown County. John and 3 brothers were to have been orphaned and bound out at an early age. John married Lovica Secrist/Secress around 1824 and was in Hamilton Co. for the birth of at least one son Aaron "Amos" in 1834. The family moved to Decatur Co. IN for about 10 years then maybe back to OH for a year or so. By 1846 they were in Mahaska Co Iowa where the last three children were born. In the 1880 census it is stated that John's father was born in Ire. and his mother was b. in PA I found an Alexander Underwood in an 1810 tax list for Highland Co. I think it is possible for him to be John's father. John's first son was Jeremiah Alexander. Does anyone have any information on John's family and Alexander? Thanks for any help, Robin

    3. Sandy, Thomas may have been buried on his parent's farm at the Holladay-Inspeep cemetery "2 miles off Highway 138" near Hillsboro. According to "The Holladay Family" by Alvis Holladay, Sr., Thomas's grandparents were buried there and the farm came to Thomas's parents. The farm seems to be in the possession of Thomas's daughter, Lena in the 1970's. I would guess that Thomas had owned until his death in 1929.
